  • Good morning everyone,

I hope you all had a nice weekend.

Friday was date night for me. In short, the girl was lovely, very bubbly, talkative, heart on the sleeve and quite funny, but she's not the one for me I don't think. I was brave (or stupid) enough to go into Manchester city centre on Saturday on what I found out to be the busiest day of the year. I managed to get everything I needed and nipped in and out on the tram, really easy.

Aside from that, I didn't do too much on my weekend.

No gym this morning, I'll go after work. Can't remember what it is I have planned for dinner but I've not taken anything out of the freezer.

Nelski - I'm another who missed your birthday sorry. I hope you had a lovely day :)
Dumpling - It seems you and the family aren't have the smoothest of festive periods for now. Although it's not good news with Jemima, I would assume that knowing in advance is better, especially for the kids, as it allows them to plan with a cool and calm head. Unlike immediately after a heated argument for example.
  • Morning, it is mild and so far, dry here. It was like this yesterday so I made the mistake of putting towels on the line. Even though it was fine, with a breeze, they didn't dry at all.

Tru, I do admire your method of dealing with adversity, must buy some Roses so that I can do it too.

I'm a bit tired after yet another poor night, I got up at 4 and found that DS had left the heating on and he'd turned it up to tropical.

Today I'm going to lunch with my two close friends from work, not sure where we are going yet. Must wrap their gifts.

I've done my present shopping, with the exception of chocolate gingers for OH and DS. They love these, though I really don't like them one bit. For years my late MIL bought them for me as my birthday and Christmas gift. I never said but she eventually found out when she handed over yet another box of the wretched things and DS who was about 4 at the time, piped up to tell her that mummy hates those but daddy and me eat them for her. So embarrassment all round.

Dumpling, you are not having much of a time of it are you, I hope something good happens for you soon. Thinking if you and of all of us who are unwell, worried or sad.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • AOD you have my mouth watering. I just love Border plain chocolate ginger biscuits - or are you talking choc ginger sweeties? Equally as nice! I love anything ginger and plan on making ginger cookies next weekend. If I make them now there will be none left by Christmas! Nom nom!

  • Chocolate ginger sweeties TA . I don't like the biscuits either. I much prefer your basic ginger nut. I like chocolate and ginger but not together.

Nelski, belated birthday wishes. I didn't get on the laptop again because of prepping for the visitors and then them being here. Not that I did much cooking, apart from the beetroot dish I made (which was lovely), it was just warming stuff up. Lots of leftovers to eat today but Steve is off to LOndon to meet the friend who employed him this year. He's being put up at a hotel so I won't see him till I pick him up at Cambridge station tomorrow to take him to Addenbrookes.

I'm going to wander round to the office I worked at with cards (I might stop and buy them some Roses - thanks Tru). I usually spend at least an hour there catching up with the gossip.
  • Mmm, Border chocolate ginger biscuits... I give a box of them to my aunt every Christmas. I can't have them myself as I don't eat wheat, but from memory yes TA, they are fab.

I'm having a domestic morning, then a swim in the afternoon. So I don't slide out of it or let other things take over, I've arranged to give my friend a lift. A poorly neighbour would like a Reiki session this evening, she always drifts off during it, and gets a better sleep overnight.

Food - I'm in a period of not being terribly interested in food but obviously I have to eat, as healthily as possible without it taking up too much time and energy. Last night I had steamed broccoli with lemon and almond butter, having had a stir fry for lunch. I've just had a reprise of the broccoli, followed by an apple for breakfast. It'll be soup for lunch and inspiration hasn't struck yet what to have this evening. When my energy's low I frequently make a green smoothie using warm fluids, cold smoothies I find too chilling in the winter. Only the blender goblet, a mug and a chopping board to clear up. No pots and pans, etc.

I didn't watch the Box of Delights yesterday, still nervous after the recent stuck DVD. So instead popped in Love Actually as it only cost 50p from a charity shop. It didn't float my boat, so having watched it through it's in the charity bag to get sold again.

Sorry to read about more family troubles, dumpling, but it sounds like you thought a split would happen. Hugs to Holly, Poppy and taff, and any of us who's feeling less than wonderful.

Gers, a spot of winter hibernation to recharge your batteries yesterday, just what you needed.

My daughter has been sending me enchanting photos of her wee babe, both are home now and settling down to family life. Her partner is on leave and although he returns to work just before Christmas, he'll be at home on Christmas Day, and then has most of January off work.

Keep warm and cosy folks, and I hope you have the best day possible. xxx
  • Ah glorious ginger nut biscuits I adore them and try not to eat half a packet at a time To me sitting down in the afternoon with my feet up a pot of tea and a few (:D) biscuits on the table by my armchair, is my idea of heaven, my knitting in my hands and my audio book playing, who needs to go trailing around shops at this time of the year My presents are all bought and wrapped just awaiting next weekend when I start my visiting. Today I shall do very little I think and just have a pottering around day complete with large pot of said tea and biscuits this afternoon ;)
The weather is dry bright and cold but even that won't tempt me out until about 3.30 when I go to see my DGS home from school.DGS Jack will walk the dogs this morning so I can relax at home a bit more today.

Tomorrow is DDs birthday and I have bought her some of her really nice perfume that she rarely gets Marc Jacobs is her favourite She has her end of year review today so I am hoping she may get a small rise :)

Eldest DD is on a H&S course for three days but she rang as usual first thing ,bless her she rings every morning to ensure I am OK

Hope everyone has a good day and keeps wrapped up and warm and dry

    Cheers chums
