It's a scam.

I needed a laugh today.:D
• Oooh, a scam, but a clever one!

Did the emails purporting to be from eBay go into your 'My Messages' folder on eBay, or just to your email address?

The first email looks to definitely be from eBay, and the rest are the scammer trying to get round the system. Forward the emails to spoof@ebay.co.uk if you haven't already.

I don't know if I'm completely correct in saying this, but I think you can still go back to your second chance buyer and offer them the phone, or you should still have the option to reclaim your FVFs from eBay if they don't want it.

Ive just had a quick read and it made me laugh, the address is we`ll say a few doors from where I work. And I wouldnt trust any of the people that live in them houses. Nothing personal, but they dont strike me as the kind of people that will pay alot of money for a mobnile phone, when I`m sure they can get one for next to nothing in the local pub "The Halfway House" or in the local area Crumpsall/ Cheatham Hill. I would re list the phone as its surley a scam, and I would ask the police to investigate, but knowing the area they are probaby too busy with non-virtual thieves.

PS. My motorbike was parked next door to the above mentioned house, once, only once and it was stolen in broad daylight. Not saying its a bad area or anything.

Its sad there are still people around who will fall for these kind of scams - you were able to realise at the start something sounded dodgy about these but so many people believe an email with ebay or paypal at the top of it must be genuine :(

Personally if I was unsure about something like this but did not want to lose sale incase in was geniune (obviously this one isn't but some seem very real), I would have sent them a fake tracking number and emailed them to ask where payment was although like others say paypal would pay you first then ask you for tracking number and only if buyer opened a dispute. If you sent false tracking number and payment did not arrive then nothing lost, if it did and it cleared fully I would send the item with correct tracking number and apologise for 'mixing-up' slips and sending wrong number originally. Sneaky I know but there are so many bad buyers (and sellers) on ebay these days you have to protect yourself.

Over and again, the advice is given, but it's continually needed.
If the mail hasn't come via My Messages to your ebay, don't give it house room.
Report ALL such things to Spoof@ebay.com, that is send them without looking, clicking, at once.
Don't engage with them AT ALL.
You can help others less au fait by doing so AND be assured, ebay will reassure you about anything that is genuine.

I have to say I am amazed at them using a UK postal address... First one on me. I would definitely contact Ebay and paypal, and I would also make a police report to me honest. It has been known for police to make "polite housecalls" especially if they are already looking for an excuse to go see the people but have nothing to go on yet...
Besides what the e-mails you have recieved amount to is actually plain attempted fraud... So they might pay attention :)
