This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Still a member of the wide awake club, managed to get to sleep after a couple of hours but awake just after 3 this morning.

Went to the Christmas party at mother's care home yesterday. Apparently mother has to be fed now !! I usually take her a bag of sweets and she didn't need any help eating them, even with her eyes closed. Not sure if it's an attention or control thing.

Not sure what we are doing today

Take care all

Bit miffed – furious actually – that mr tru's mate popped in last night, with his two littlies. They did that thing all kids do when they see a dog, squealed and try to get him to play. I get that and don't blame them at all. The mate knows first meetings have to be managed, he did it himself when he first met Scamp. And he has dogs, one of which is a bit nervous but not as bad as Scamp. But he didn't stop his kids and mr tru made no effort to move Scamp away, then he made this awful noise. I've never heard it before, I thought he was in pain (he wasn't). I walked in and told them he's panicking because he's stressed because of THIS (you have to imagine me waving both arms in big circles as I said that!). I stood there with my best Ellen-Ripley-warns-alien-queen face and they left, Scamp shot to the sofa and curled up in a tight ball in the corner.

I'm going to a carol concert this morning, should be good. I booked my ticket a while back – they do three services and it's free but gets packed out so you have to book a ticket – and my brother told me a couple of days ago that he's going too with Little Mate. We'll probably go to the pub afterwards, it's conveniently just down the road :D That pub is half my family's local, I really do think we bought our house on the wrong side of the hill :D

• Morning all!

Holly I've just seen your post. It is really good to hear from you and goid to know that you are getting good professional support. I hope you will feel up to posting again when you are able.

I've got yet more washing on the go, thought I'd finished it but was wrong, more mysteriously appeared overnight.

OL I hope she continues to be pleasant.

I have various things to do but they are incredibly dull and boring so won't burden you with them.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
• Good morning everyone, I've been awake for a couple of hours too. Looking at the weather forecast, it looks to be dry for the Sunday stroll. If we feel it's too icy we'll have a cuppa anyway.

Mrs SD, it sounds like you get affected by the winter darkness. I certainly get it but not as severely. I want to hibernate during the day, but ironically I'm being woken early by a cranky body. Another few weeks and there will be a noticeable turn back to increased daylight duration.

Food today - a cauliflower arrived in my veg box and I think this cold weather calls for it to go in a curry, with lots of other veg and chickpeas. I'm not a vegetarian but eat quite a few veggie meals.

This afternoon I'm going to watch a seasonal DVD series, the Box of Delights. I haven't watched it for a few years, so I'm looking forward to it.

Hugs to poorlies, carers and everyone feeling Christmas and/or family or other pressures. Whatever you're doing today, I hope you have the best day possible. xxx

Morning All

We had more snow last night but it's been raining so hopefully it will disappear quickly. Not as cold as yesterday although as I was home all day with the heating on I didn't feel it!

Yesterday's cleaning went well, all upstairs now done ready for the visitors, stairs hoovered and a table from the living room hauled upstairs so I have room for a Christmas tree (that I haven't bought yet!). I'll do the living room when it's an acceptable time to put the hoover on without waking the neighbours.

Plans for today are to go out for the chairs and a tree but as I have the smallest car on earth I may need to make 2 trips. Washing is in and DW just finished doing its thing.

Loving your tree Gers.
Good to hear from you Holly.
Shame on your OH's friends tru.
TA - don't beat yourself up, do what you feel like doing. No-one is going to judge you.
Hugs to the poorlies.

Right, off to find some sandpaper, I took down the TV from the kitchen and have filled the holes, they need sanding and painting.

Have a good Sunday, take care. XX

Im a bit done with eating out now.

Morning everyone,
Hey Holly good to see a post from you and know that you are doing ok, take care x
Poor old Scampi TRU as you know it’s routine that keeps an animal settled and something like that can really upset.
Love the tree Gers and how cosy did your fire look.

Been up for a while and there is now a piece of beef brisket having a warm bath in the SC :D we will have that later as DSS is coming round to watch the footie, apparently he hasn’t sorted his wifi out yet, all sounding very familiar :rotfl: he did say he has missed the home cooked meals so I will rustle up a treacle tart as well.
It’s meant to be milder today, we had the heating on all day yesterday as it was bitterly cold, Lu did nothing more strenuous than eat carrots!

Have a good day folks x
• Tru, just saw your post. I hope this has not set Scampi back too much.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
• Morning folks and thanks SO for the early start. I don't want to gloat but I actually had a better night last night. It won't last!

I feel a bit better this morning after my blip yesterday. I am still up and down and I don't think it's helped by Christmas looming, plus the short days and long dark evenings. I know I say this often but I hate winter at the best of times.

I am off to the gorgeous garden centre over the hill this morning with DD and the girls. They do the most wonderful (and expensive!) Christmas shop every year and we are off for a browse. I hope it ends up just a browse and my purse remains in my bag! It'll be the first time if it does! We are avoiding the restaurant this time as it was a big disappointment last time we went. But they usually have a little pop up cafe/takeaway at Christmas selling hot drinks and goodies.

Thankfully the horrible weather yesterday didn't last long. We didn't get much snow but we got rain aplenty and it looked quite icy out there. By the time DD and the girls headed home from the panto she said it had got considerably warmer and no sign of ice. Weird weather.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. Thinking especially of HOLLY, POPPY and TAFF. Take care all xx

Morning everyone

silver-oldie - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

A later start for us this morning, but won't do us any harm, we're always up early during the week for work. DH now in the bath, I'll go for a shower in a mo, both boys enjoying first cuppas.

Dinner last night was chicken saag, chicken tikka masala, HM veg curry, rice and naans and poppadums. Today will be lamb shanks, with roasties, mash, veg and gravy, we won't be going down the full roast route.

We're heading out to visit the parents shortly, then home to get stuff done here.

Keep safe and well x
