Also to add that if you believe other family members are taking advantage and there is a query about capacity then you can raise a financial safeguarding alert through the local authority.
It is possible that this may already be an area of concern to the LA hence the lack of information while they investigate. And if there are serious concerns then may then be looking at an independent third party to take over the finances.
But as with everything else this would also hinge on MILS capacity around finances and any other potential safeguarding concerns.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • If other family members have robbed her (MIL) of her savings then you can bet your bottom dollar they have their eyes set on the house. Its the most valuable asset many of you own ..so it would certainly be a prize . You need to sort out the POA , by speaking to your MIL, and other family members.

We have indeed been getting information from another family member. As we live so far away it is hard to understand what is really happening when my mother in laws social worker is not returning my husbands calls.

I think he is just concerned for her well fair and wants to set something up to ensure that she’s taken care of as best as we can.

If calls aren't being returned it's possible that another family member has already been accepted by Social Services as having the right to act on the mother's behalf. I don't know if it's possible to discover if there is a POA already in place, but maybe some more digging for information is in order.
