Lift call-out charge

Hi,

I have received notification that i am liable for a Lift management call out charge?

About 11 months ago i dropped my keys down the lift shaft - so called out the company - at no point was I told that it would cost £216 - or anything - i wasnt handed an invoice afterwards either - if i knew it would have been that expensive i would have booked a hotel and got keys cut!

Where do I stand in having to pay this?

Thanks

    Where ? Your home/apartment, a hotel/office/shopping centre ?

Not sure why you think it's not your responsibility to pay :(
  • a rented apartment - I'm not denying fault here - just think that If i am to be charged it should be stated how much before the transaction takes place?

i.e. wouldn't have called out - would have just got keys cut!?

Is there something in your contract with the management/maintenance company saying that there will be a charge?

It'd be "obvious" that there would be some form of charge... because somebody has to physically come, with knowledge/tools/skills, "on call out" to get the keys for you.... nobody works for free.

So.... you either think people DO work for free (do you?), or you just assumed that the landlord would pay it ... or all the other residents (in their management fees).

Not denying that a fee should be there - but surely you have to state how much a service would cost before proceeding with it?

Will refer to my tenancy contract.
  • I'm assuming that the management fee is for things like this?
  • No the management fee covers the time of the property manager to organise it all.

I guess you get to pay £216 now and not again, or £216/nflats whenever any of your neighbours drops their keys...

This fee is payable by your landlord I suspect.
if he/she chooses to pass it on to you, that's up to them.

I imagine there's a clause in the headlease

Had you been a visitor it's unlikely they would have pursued this
