And ????
Unless I'm out of date then the island itself is 'duty free' so any difference in price is down to margin/costs of retailers. Big flashy shop in airport will be more than small downtown store0 -
It's not a con. It's the price they want to charge - very common in a lot of duty free shops where prices are lower in the high street.
Know your prices and make your own choice but it's not a con.0 -
On the flipside, the other week Gran Canaria duty free were flogging 3 x litre bottles of Smirnoff vodka for €28, so it can work both ways.0

What percentage of travellers want to buy honey rum?0

Are you raging because you decided to wait until the airport to buy some and it backfired?
It looks as though the local shop has a deal going on. What is the normal price behind the hand-written label?0 -
On the plus side, that rum looks excellent so going to get a bottle when i'm on hols.
Heading to Lanzarote on Saturday so will invest in a bottle. Or two.0 -
I know this is a stupid question but given the restrictions on the amounts of liquid you can take in carry on, are you saying you'd run the risk of the bottle now breaking in your suitcase?0

I bought a bottle of Royal Salute whisky and packed it in my suitcase.
It got broken and I cried and cried, just joking about the crying bit.
That was years ago but nowadays if you buy booze outside the airport can you hand carry it through customs etc or will it get confiscated???It's your money. Except if it's the governments.0 -
