I'm intrigued what SIMPLE banking task could not be done online or on an app?

I have written about this in another thread. It is not that the app can't do it, many do not want the app for privacy reasons. I don't want my bank tapping into my location, personal files, etc. Online banking isn't practical on the go.

Too many people are going herd like into the unknown democractic trap these companies are setting for us. Instead of producting something of worth and value which theoretically lots of things are. People are not asking the questions en masse and giving corporations hard times. I wish I could put my money into a credit union yet still have bank functionality from a paying point of view.

Very surprised with the many trusting souls here on what is a more savvy environment than the general sheep public.

So you have removed a simplified method of passing security because it fails once in a while, The result of which you now have to go through a longer process every time, rather than the just the odd occasion when you have an issue.

You have not gained anything from that decision.

Simplified should not mean weakened. Failing once in a while for you can mean working once in a while for someone else.

You're missing the point of jones's question, which was in the context of OP saying that it is that the app (or online service) can't do it:

She's had to go through an extended set of questions (some a bit bizarre) in order to do a simple telephone banking task (which couldn't be done online or in the app).

Well, one day I repaid my credit card in full a few days before the DD collection day. But a few days latter, the DD collected the full statement balance anyway.

My simple task would be return one of the payments back to my bank account. But I couldn't find a way to do this on the online banking or their apps, I had to call them.

FYI, most DD collections are prepared 3 days before the date, so payments made after that are not taken into account. It's perhaps best to keep that in mind in future.

I recently called to set up a payment to a new recipient because I was away from home without my card reader. Could be something like that?

I don't know it's 3 calendar days or 3 working days. But yes, you are right, I will need to keep it in mind.

Unless it's Halifax credit card in which case they take the statement balance by direct debit no matter when you pay it off manually

It depends on the company concerned. The last firm I worked for had a 7-day billing operation, so there was no difference between the two.

OK, good to know that the policy is different between companies.
