Voice ID is not reliable

I have declined to let my bank use Voice ID to validate who I am for telephone banking. The technology is not reliable enough.

My wife is on Voice ID. Today she has a cold so Voice ID does not recognise her! She's had to go through an extended set of questions (some a bit bizarre) in order to do a simple telephone banking task (which couldn't be done online or in the app). It took ages. What a pain!

It is not just having a cold or sore throat that causes problems. Voice ID also does not work well if there is any background noise.

She's now asked to be taken off Voice ID.

I hope banks will not make Voice ID mandatory.

  • Had same problem with First Direct when using the cordless phone. Didn’t recognise voice either.
Use normal landline now. No problems since.

I have a cold today and my voice is going too. Hope she feels better soon.

You did give me a bit of a smile remembering this:

  • Rest assured with BigTech forcing unwanted unfair contracts on us to get our data that voice ID will be forced on us. Google has stolen my voice recordings without my permissions. It is trying to get me into voice modus operandi. I use Google assistant in a limited fashion to work out what it is all about can it help? I think if one can stay old fashioned but secure one should do so because these companies need to be cut down to size and their job made difficult. Our wellbeing the priority.
  • There should be a faccility to use false voices where ones real voice is totally undectable by machine learning so one could use Alexa Google home wihout jeopardising ones privacy.
    Such devices deserve subversion.
ONe does NOT have a personal relationship with corporations who are the byword for misery. Just look at the small white print on tv ads to be put off or small print on websites to take the shine out of such lifestyle enchancing rather than product describeing why it will better your life ad.
  • Too many people are going herd like into the unknown democractic trap these companies are setting for us. Instead of producting something of worth and value which theoretically lots of things are. People are not asking the questions en masse and giving corporations hard times. I wish I could put my money into a credit union yet still have bank functionality from a paying point of view.
  • Alexa please withdraw $55bn from Bezos bank account. No more scrimping and saving just prudent reckless investing and spending

So you have removed a simplified method of passing security because it fails once in a while, The result of which you now have to go through a longer process every time, rather than the just the odd occasion when you have an issue.

You have not gained anything from that decision.
