Been using Nationwide online for a couple of years, I only check it about once a month, but cannot seem to log into my account tonight, tried about 20 times and it keeps coming up with 'you have entered your details incorrectly - Please try again' but it does not lock me out after even 20 attempts!!

Do I need to re-register now?

My friend is having the same problem with her Royal Bank Of Scotland Account as well.

Hi there , yes you have to register if you try to log in more than three times.
Happened to me earlier this year. Of course n/w always blame the customer. I had a lot of grief and lies from them and they only backed down when I caught them out. With their abysmal interest rates being announced in the morning they are probably afraid that their customers will be moving their money out.
I for one will stick it in NS&I after that it will be the mattress then gold.

I've had this happen for the second time. It happened about this time last year, and then again this month. Out of interest, how did you catch them out?
  • Yes I am having problems; I use Linux and Iceweasel (=Firefox), so knowing of Natiowide's normal incompetence I was fearful that they had accidentally broken my connection because I am a non-Microsoft user (they were terribly snobbish about that when I first arrived some years ago -- I might as well have arrived from another planet; honestly, what an amateur IT department).

Anyway, I was greatly relieved to infer from other posts that it is not just me, but I am particularly annoyed to have been assured at about 22:30 GMT 2010-11-22 when I phoned 08457 30 20 10 on the "helpful" FAQ page that everything is fine with Internet Banking, I should turn my computer off and on again and it would be all right. (!)

What a shower, that the customers have to tell them before they even know themselves, and then to dismiss my enquiry in such a cavalier manner instead of taking me seriously.

They must think their customers are stupid. (Well of course I am, for sticking with them; it's lucky I still have accounts with other banks I can use. I only came to Nationwide for the good interest, not their customer service, so now the interest has vanished (flexaccount) I must be stupid for putting up with their arrogance.)
  • Yes problems around 2010-11-22 22:30 GMT

Phoned 08457 30 20 10 and they said their system is fine; it must be my connection; effectively just brushed me aside.

Currently their site says Service availablity; Internet Banking: Operating Normally.

Yes, incompetence and arrogance, perfectly normal service for Nationwide.
  • For a few days now I've been trying to log on to Nationwide on my mac. All is okay and mycustomer number appears, for which I click continue. Then the window for entering my password is very narrow, and won't woden whatever I do. I can't get into my account at all, and I've emailed them but can't read a reply! I;ve deleted cookies.checked security etc. Anyone had the same problem?

Try a different browser as I have been able to access no problem.
  • Nationwide Building Society seems to have been having problems since about last November with its internet website. On many occasions I have not been able to get onto the home page although I can get onto the home pages of other banks' websites.

The local branch told me that they (IT dept) were working on it but there is still something very wrong with the website as I can't access the homepage but I can access the sign on page through 'my favourites' links.

They say they don't recommend this for security reasons but I suspect that it's because you don't see their ads on the way to the log in page! Nationwide need to install better servers as the ones that they have are not up to the job and yet they won't admit it and the people who answer emails clearly have no technical knowledge and fob you off with lame excuses.

This is a very old thread which has been revived.

Interestingly, the problems still continue. I am presently unable to get past the first log in page on any browser. It is a truly dreadful web site run IMHO by a dreadful organisation. All the other financial institution log in's I use are perfect.

I am so glad that I cancelled my current account transfer from First Direct to Nationwide and the recent issue over withdrawing cash from ATM's in Europe only reinforced my decision.

I only keep it going because there are no charges for using the credit card in Europe. As soon as that 'perk' has gone, I'm off and taking my ISA's with me.

Edit: And they want you to switch off paper billing without a reliable internet service - No Chance !!

I agree... what was once a reliable banking website is now inaccessible for most of the time.

Nationwide - get your act together! Why is your customer service so bad compared to what it once was?
