The police have 14 days to send the NIP & they are allowed a few days grace to allow for the letter being delayed in the post. If the NIP is not delivered until 17 days or more then it becomes invalid.

Several times I have read advice in the press saying that an NIP received after the time limit expires should be returned, marked ''Out Of Time''.
Nope - that's incorrect - the police have to send the NIP so that "in the normal course of events" it should arrive with the registered keeper [they don't even know the driver at this stage] within 14 days. So a postal delay or strike won't wash.
If the NIP is dated more than 14 days after the event - then you can send it back as out of time.
It's covered in the FAQs on THIS SITE. As are many of the other correct and incorrect points made in earlier posts.

The site you quoted has the following Health Warning:
From time to time someone will discover a potential loophole that can assist you with a speeding case. These loopholes are often shaggy dog stories - with no basis in fact.

To the OP, at this stage wait and see if an NIP is served - at 34mph [assuming your speedos correct] it seems very unlikely IMHO.

KIA will be pleased, they give you a car and get lumbered with a speeding ticket! ;)
  • Ultimately, mate, you were speeding so, there's no point looking around the internet to try to find ways out.. you were speeding. It's really annoying when it happens, I had a completely clean license, was in a new area, was flashed doing about 34 in a 30. Annoying but, it was my fault, so, I just paid the fine. Some people do get lucky and get a speed awareness course of course. Also, it MAY make a difference to your premium. When doing a search, if I stated I had no points it was about a £40 - £50 difference on some sites, and that's with max no claims on a Ford Focus. So, you won't lose your license for it, you won't go to jail, just take the fine if you get it and accept it...

    agreed
That attitude is better for your own sanity in the long run.
When I was caught it was
    • unfair
    • only a few mph over
    • annoying
    • expensive
    I was quite upset
Then I paid up - put it down to experience - and felt a weight lifted off me.

Ask them for a photo of you in the car as evidence to see if your face is clear. I did when I got caught by the greed cameras. The photo was of the rear end of the car. I wrote to them and said my au pair was driving and does not work for us any more has left the UK. I never heard from them again -

Or you can simply do what I do and ensure the RK of your vehicle is domiciled overseas.

I never see any speeding tickets and I speed regularly.

Note to do-gooders: speeding is fine (90mph on the M4 at 3a.m), irresponsible speeding (37mph past a school entrance at 3.30p.m) is not.

Any advice that you receive from me is worth exactly what you paid for it. Not a penny more or a penny less.
