You may get offered the speed awareness course, I think the criteria is 35mph and under in a 30 zone. I think it's about £80 but you don't get points if you attend. HTHSaving a house deposit. Member no.7 100% of target

Depends where you were caught.
If the police force have the facility, you will be offered a Speed Awareness course.
I'm surprised you were caught at 34mph though (I assume you were in a 30 zone) as the penalty guideline is 35-39mph (in a 30mph zone)
Assuming they do offer it, the choices are:
3 penalty points and £60 fine
or
Speed awareness course costing £74 but no penalty points!
The course is two and a half hours, dinky exam (no pass/fail) and some interactive lectures about the dangers of speeding.
There is no Pass or Fail on the course, but they expect you to demonstrate a changed attitude to speeding!!0 -
im glad i always refer to MSE for help and info

Oh the course might not be £74, I know my dh recently had to attend one (doing 79 on a motorway!) and it was just £60.Make £5 per day in August= £100/£155
Paid MS- £5+ £10 GR, £5 RE, £15 MS
£65 ebay profit
Waiting on payment- E160 BAI

I received my joining instructions yesterday for mine booked on 17 December in Crowthorne.... cost me £74
Perhaps different forces charge different amounts. For Thames Valley Police it is definitely £74.0 -
You only said you were flashed you did not say you have received notification in the post. If you have not received notification you might not get a fine because there might not have been a film in the camera. Usually it flasshes twice if there is a film in.0

Provided you have a clean licence, then having 3 points won't affect you at all - just make sure you don't break the speed limit in future.0

It's not nice when it happens to you, agreed. Like the above poster said, there might not be any film in the camera. Just be more careful in the future: it clearly wasn't deliberate on your part: 34 in a 30 zone.BLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? OR THE MORNING? OH, FORGET THIS MALARKEY!

Look at the back of the camera. If the vents are closed (the two small circles are grey) theres no camera in, but it will still flash. If the vents are open (the circles are black there is a camera)then you will be getting a Notice of Inpending Presecution or whatever its called.
If you do get a NIP I am sure you can appeal by sending in a letter as the law states you have to be cautioned before you can be prosecuted or something like that. Because you have not been told you 'have the right to remain silent', etc before you are sent the summons you can't be prosecuted. I had a sample letter as you have to be very specific about this. I will try and find it. If the letter fails you can still pay the fine as your letter will state 'I trust that my two weeks notice to pay the fine will start once I get my reply to this letter'.
Hope this helps

The template letter would be really useful to a lot of people if you can find it! Thanks.0
