New carpet query

MSE forum virgin here! Had new carpet fitted this morning. The carpet itself is the one we ordered but it looks very different to the sample we borrowed from the shop. Obviously I know that colours can vary slightly and will depend on direction of pile but the difference is ridiculous. With pile pushed the ‘right’ way, the colour looks silver (not what we wanted); with pile pushed ‘wrong’ way, colour looks MUCH darker (what we wanted). Would post photos if I could figure out how to. We took our time studying sample and there was no indication that brushing carpet one way or the other would change the colour so dramatically. Spoke to shop manager while fitters were here and waiting for him to get back to me. Have paid 50% with the rest due now. Inclined not to pay balance until this has been sorted out. Any words of wisdom would be gratefully received. Have been looking forward to having the carpet fitted but now feel so disappointed.

yep. priceless. always someone else's fault.0 -
They had started fitting when I noticed the problem. If I stopped them then, we would be without a carpet over Xmas/New Year. Not viable with young children and people visiting.0

Hi
You say that the carpet is the one you chose & ordered ?
But it doesn't look the same as the sample ?
Can you get the sample back & compare ?
To be honest if it is the carpet you chose & ordered I'm not sure what you can expect the retailer to do ?
It's been cut to fit your room so they can't just take it back & resell it.

You had a sample, ordered what you wanted, let it be fitted, now you're considering not paying for it.
On top of that, you want to use it for a few weeks . . .
A few weeks use is likely to be considered as acceptance.
You haven't said how you think it can sorted out? What are you hoping for?0 -

"What are you hoping for?".......a big discount.....50%0 -
To be clear, the carpet looks nothing like the sample. It looks iridescent so appears a totally different colour from one end of the room to the other. It also brushes a totally different colour, making it look like there is a thick coat of dust on the top from some angles. Had any of this been evident from the sample, we never would have chosen it. We took our time with the samples - we didn’t pick the carpet on a whim. It is not as described by the sample. Trouble is, this problem only became evident when the fitters had done half the fitting. I queried with them and we called the shop at that point. However, the fitters agreed with the shop to continue fitting (they were the ones who didn’t want to leave us without a carpet over Xmas, especially as it was half-fitted and they had cut our old carpet into pieces). Perhaps with hindsight I should have told them to stop fitting and take the new carpet up again but, having not been in this position before, I didn’t know what to do. We’re getting the sample back from the shop to compare to the laid carpet. I cannot emphasise enough how different it looks when laid to the sample. This can’t be right. We had the sample for a few days so tested it in all lights. We have a good relationship with the shop so hopefully this matter can be resolved. We are happy with their service but the problem is that the carpet is not as described. Consumer law dictates that we have to take it up with the retailer, not the manufacturer.0
