  • Hello! First timer here and excited to take part. Please put me down for £30,000.

    Thanks for organising, slowlyfading!
  • Hi all,

First time posting here but I’ve been reading for a while. Can I be put down for a conservative £3000 in 2019 please?

Are there any specific rules or guidance as to what counts as saving? E.g. mortgage overpayment, pension contributions etc. Thanks

Not really - it's up to you what feels right.

Personally, I don't count savings if I already have plans to spend the money in the future (e.g. I've been saving for the last couple of years to eventually replace my car, but haven't included these savings in the 2017 or 2018 challenges). I also don't count savings that i'd have done regardless, e.g. my standard work pension scheme. However, I would count additional pension savings into my SIPP. But that's just my take on it.

For those of you who are new, can I suggest you add the thread to your subscriptions list? - you do this by clicking on the Thread Tools tab at the top of the page - thereafter you can click on User CP and it takes you to your subs page and you can see who has posted. It's a good way of remembering where you put us and might reduce the numbers of people who declare their targets and are never heard from again

    I hope this helps!

I did this challenge in 2017 and beat my target of £12k because it really focuses the mind. I didn't join in last year as I didn't know if I was going to be employed, but I have a new job now, finances are sorted so I'm going to join in again and give myself the target of £5k. This is actually quite ambitious now as I only work part time.
Spend less now, work less later.
  • Sign me up! £6000 please!

Been lurking on the last board since September time, itching to start next year's challenge; desperately need to save for a mortgage deposit and at 35 years old the clock is ticking! I need motivation and this seems like the best place to be for lots of it!!
  • I would like to join this challenge , could you put me down for £15K ?

My plan is to split it £12k S+S Isa and £3k Cash. The cash is a "secret" little fund that I have running to take Mrs P away in 2 years when she has a significant birthday. The old girl has put up with all my nonsense for 33years and is so eagle eyed would notice if I transferred it too any kind of savings account.

I'd love to join for 2019 please (I was part of this challenge a few years ago) ..I'm going to aim for £6k in 2019.

Hoping I can smash that target though and save even more :)
