L&G vandalised my marriage certificate

As I said in my OP, I'm not sure what I want to happen in regard to this but the more I think about it, I suppose a proper apology and an assurance that they have changed their systems of working so they actually do look after people's documents properly would be handy.
L&G really should train their staff properly in how to treat peoples personal documents in a respectful manner - the stupidity of a staff member actually equates to poor management systems!
I think that is a constructive way to look at it. Even if there had been financial loss, it would take a compensation award of millions to affect such a huge company.
I had a situation where my GP sent out a medical report on me without my consent (to make it worse, it was also inaccurate). This was because there was no procedure in place for dealing with report requests (yes, unbelievable!). I received a letter of apology from the GP, and a copy of the policy that they had implemented to ensure that it never happened again. I cannot be sure that they are applying the policy (I changed doctors!), but at least someone had taken the time to write the policy (or take it off a website and personalise it!).Gone ... or have I?0 -
When I worked in complaints for a bank, we used to get complaints about marriage certificates being stapled, or sliced by the post machines.
Usual policy would be an apologetic letter, the money to cover the cost of a relacement, and either a bunch or flowers or an M&S gift voucher as an apology.
If it helps, on one occasion where it was a member of staff's fault (for stapling it to the rest of the correspondence), it genuinely upset her when she realised what she'd done and how much it had upset the couple in question.0 -

Hi
i know this is about the certificate mostly but have you referred your misselling claim to the FSA as the ombudsman.
If L & G have admitted responsibility they dont have a leg to stand on and he will direct them to make good your loss.0 -

!!!!!! :wall: I just told you, I never suggested a case for libel exists.
Listen, it may have been a cr4p idea (of mine) to search for a libel lawyer, on the basis that they would be well versed in recovering damages for heartache, emotional loss/upset and/or mental anguish. But the idea was (as stated in my first post) that they would be well versed in suing for mental anguis emotional distress - so they might be a good lawyer to have advice from.
If you want to have a go at me for having a crap idea, atleast have the decency to attack me on what I suggested rather than inventing some tripe that I think libel has occured.0 -

Calm down dear - have a drink
I understand what you mean. In practice, any lawyer involved in anything close to "personal damages" would be able to deal with this e.g. lawyers claiming for accidents.
To be honest, it's bread & butter stuff to all lawyers - any lawyer would be able to deal with it. A partner would probably give it to his/her trainee - and then review the letter/advice before it's issued.
Better nowWarning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
But it will probably not be worth paying a lawyer. The damages are going to be "notional" - tens of pounds, not thousands.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0

Much better thanks, finally someone dealing with what I actually said.0 -
My letter of complaint went off to L&G on Wednesday, today I received a very nice letter back from them apologizing and saying that they have reminded their staff to treat customers property with respect in the future etc.
More importantly they have offered me £250 compensation!! Was not looking for this but I'm not going to say no either!
Now to contact the registrar in Barbados and see if I can get a new certificate.
I'll also be sending another letter of o L&G to thank them fro there prompt response and resolution of this matter as I feel that it's important to praise good customer services as well as to criticize poor practice.
Now to have a study and see if I can appeal against their decision that I 'suffered no financial loss' from being mis-sold my endowment even though it is still set to have a small short full.0
