  • Hello,

My handset, a basic LG phone, is starting to get a bit slow and the camera quality is poor, my contract period with EE is due up at the end of June, my average cost is approx. £23 a month and that is unlimited calls and texts plus I think about 10G a month, i'm after a new phone, something a little better than what I have, what is the best thing to do please

    Thanks in advance

Buy a phone separately to any contract and in future look at SIM only. The shops and networks hate customers who shop around for the best SIM only deals, no commission for the shop (order direct over the phone), less profit for the network... more money in your pocket.

Not sure what "due up" means, but if you want it to end you'll have to do that or it will simply carry on.

Spend a few minutes to work it out.
Find out how many minutes / text and Internet you need.
What network work for you. Rember some network may have weak signal.
What phone you need. Have 2 or 3 in mind. May be play with the phones to make sure you are happy with the size and screen.
This is the hard part: Look for a best deal either sim only or with phone. Recently some planes work out cheaper with phone contract. Rember SIM only is not always the cheapest.
Get the price for sim only contract and the price of the phone.
For example price of phone/24 plus monthly cost of sim only.
Compre this with the monthly contract with the phone. Also rember for sim only you will need to pay the full price of the phone in one go.

If you want a good overview of signal strength for the major networks in one place check out Ofcom's coverage checker - sadly I can't post a link to it but it's a really good tool!

“ iD Mobile* ‒ 1mth contract now 1GB, 500 mins, unltd text: £5/ Month" was the deal I found.

EE shouldn't have problems beating that

I called EE this morning and spoke to a chap in Ireland, the best he said he could do was £10. I was cut off during the call and he did not call me back.

I have my PUC via a text and he has referred me to their website re unlocking which he says may cost £8.99. Last time it did not cost anything and the service was much better dealing with a couple of EE ladies on North Tyneside.

£10 pm for which plan? Late last year EE retentions offered me 10gb data & unlimited calls/texts on a Sim Only plan for £10 pm on a 12 month min term, IMHO its a good deal. However i decided to stay put on my current EE sim only plan: EE Max plan with 30 gb data for £16.49 pm. Didn't want to lose the perks of the Max plan, mainly higher 4G speeds and free roaming in US & Canada :)

    1GB data.

I can buy the Sony Xperia XA2 for £249 from CPW but if I add their 1GB data deal at £5 the phone cost comes down to £189 paid upfront. The screen on my existing Xperia XA is cracked so this seems quite reasonable to me.

EE say I have to pay off my phone bill before they will unlock, my 2 year contract finished on the 6th January. I think that EE are being difficult so I will probably change my EE land line also.

I have had lots of problems with EE, defective land line for ages before they brought in Openreach and lots of problems in Spain trying to get a roaming signal.

  • In that case request a PAC from EE, once they know you're serious about leaving only then will their retentions dept speak to you & offer you something decent. I presume previously you have spoken to their standard support or sales agents - they are NOT the best people to offer you the best deals. Aim to get their 10gb SIM Only plan for £10 per month on a 12 month contract.

Your contract did not finish on the 6th, you probably mean you completed the minimum term.

You are still required to give 30 days notice, if you had wanted to terminate at the end of the minimum term you should have given the notice on the 6th of December.

The contract will continue until you give notice or get a PAC to port the number elsewhere.
