Yellow jacket freedom fighters spreading to London

Because people believe on the whole, what the Establishment wants them to believe. Which is why there is so much squealing about Venezuela and Communism if anyone mentions renationalising the railways.
Personally I don't want the government to own supermarkets, but nor do I want the private sector to own schools and hospitals. It's a shame some people see no middle ground.
My concern about renationalisation of the railways is the way it was when it was previously nationalised. I suggest you look it up, I don't have to, I remember doing everything I could to avoid it, could never be sure it would actually run, the unconctrolled unions might suddenly decide to strike because a fly landed on someone's nose, they were filthy compared to today, they were awful. And they would be today because they would be controlled by unions. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -

How come other countries have state owned railways without the problems? It points to some problem other than nationalization?
Genuine question, I was never really a rail commuter until long after we'd privatized them.0 -

UK rail franchises run by foreign governments include: SNCF (Thameslink, Southern, South Eastern, Great Northern, and Gatwick Express.) Deutshce Bahn (Arriva Trains Wales, Chiltern Railways, CrossCountry, Grand Central, and Northern.); Trenitalia (c2c) and Netherlands Rail (Greater Anglia, Stansted Express and Scotrail).
Your railways are run by the state, just not by your state. What you are saying is that the British government cannot run British railways, so rather than hold the government to account or demand a better government, the only solution is privatisation.
This axiom of privatisation has spread like a disease through the English speaking world. It's why we have the worst, most expensive trains in Europe, and why the Americans may as well buy a lotto ticket instead of purchasing health insurance.
The British are quite capable of running their own railways and hospitals without profit gouging private companies. All it takes is a bit of self belief and some half competent leadership. As a Brexiter you should be all over that.0 -

These freedom fighters are using antiquated techniques to create disruption IMO.
There are far more effective ways of achieving this, if you so desire.
Technology offers new opportunities all the time. The drone chaos at Gatwick would not have been possible just a decade ago.
What will be interesting is just how quick the authorities are in responding to new challenges. The evidence so far does not look promising.0 -
I probably have a slight preference for nationalisation of rail contracts (as the contracts expire).
Realistically though it isn't going to make a huge dent in improving the value for money for rail services, only increased government subsidy/investment is likely to achieve that0 -

True, but any profit would at least be fed back into our government, rather than someone else's. Maybe some of it could even be re-invested.0 -

OP wants a cheap house. Drone attacks just pees off ordinary people who need to travel rather than the 'bankers'.0 -
Freedom from bankers manipulation
Your situation is 99% of your own making if you live in a western developed country like ours. I know that people don’t like to admit it, and so indulge in fantasies about a dark cabal, but the fact is your current situation, and that of most of us, is down to us ourselves.
I’ve been pretty senior in an investment bank, at the level where I would definitely have needed to be brought on board if we were part of the New World Order, but strangely, that never happened.0 -

As someone who was "pretty senior in an investment bank" you must be good with figures.
You'll understand then, how disgraceful it is that 4.1 million children in the UK (the world's 5th richest country) are growing up in poverty. Of these, 64% have a parent in work. The literal definition of the working poor.
A child classified thus is on a conveyor belt which is going the opposite way to their peers the moment they are born. On average they will earn much less, die earlier, and be far more likely to end up homeless than their peers.
These children can't choose their parents of any of their other circumstances. So no, 99% of your situation is not of your own making.
I hope your industry enjoyed the hundreds of billions of dollars / pounds of free corporate welfare handouts funded by various taxpayers after the banks' failure to manage their own risk annihilated the western economy in 2007.
That was the era which was the last time that average people could look forward to feeling better off the following year than the one last gone, rather than the reverse.
The thank you seems to have got lost in the post.0
