Witnessed an accident where driver didn't stop - what should I do?

This morning I witnessed a minor accident. At a junction a car suddenly decided it didn't want to get on J1 of the M1 and turned across a lane, hitting a car to its left.
The third party pulled up at the start of the M1 whilst the car that hit is just drove off.
I have the reg numbers of each car as the whole thing was caught on my dashcam, but I was unable to stop and tell the third party or take their details.
Is there anything I should/could do? The damage was quite significant.

You could provide the information to the police or your insurers. If the damage was significant then it's likely the person hit will be putting in a claim and possibly reporting the other driver to the police for not stopping - if they have the details. Your insurer might be able to find out the insurer of the car that was hit and process the info on to them (dunno), but maybe the local cop shop might be the place to start.
If it was me, I would speak to local police.0 -
Find the insurance details for the aggrieved party and contact their insurers0

Post on a local Facebook page: To the driver of XYZ car registration number .... I have a video for you regarding Junction 1 this morning.0

askmid.com from a mobile device, and you can get the insurance details of the car that was hit. Then get in contact with the insurer, and explain you witnessed it, and their policyholder is not at fault.0

I would try and sell the footage to the driver that stopped - part way to pay for the dash camera.
Post up on facebook would be my guess....or one of the forum groups if it was one of them cars with one.0 -
You witnessed a potential crime, Your best bet it to put the footage on CD and hand it in to your local police station.0

No, where did you get that from.
If I was the only who got my car damaged by someone who just drive off I would happily pay for the footage.0
