Clear varnished light oak door - what facings and skirting?

Does pine skirting and facings go ok with light oak doors or should we be looking to use something else with the doors?

All will be matt clear varnished btw.....I want away from paint.

Thanks for any opinions. :D

If you have wood flooring I think the skirting should match.

I think the facings should match the doors if possible.

So if you have oak doors & flooring why not change the skirting & facings.

If you just have oak doors (& non wood floor) then I think if you don't want white, then the woods should all match.

We dont have oak flooring...our house isn't that nice, lol.

We probably couldn't afford to put oak skirtings and facings everywhere. We have been offered oak doors but if we can't get away with pine or an equally cheaper wood for the facings and skirtings then we might have to think again.

    Thanks. :)

If you can get hold of pine WITHOUT any knots in the wood & put a light oak stain on it, it would probably match the oak doors.

You are lucky to get oak doors for free!!! They cost a bomb.

I think white skirtings and frames go lovely with Oak doors.

I have oak wooden flooring, oak doors, and oak furniture and white frames and skirtings, and it really sets it off.

I'll fish out a pic and show you, so at least you can see the effect first, just incase you change your mind.:D

Hi, I have seen light oak doors with a much darker oak stain on the skirting and frames, the contrast looks really nice, I do like to see variations in wood colours. I also think the upkeep of stained frames/skirting is much easier than white ones too. I have white and sometimes get really fed up of the scuff/finger marks.

Funnily enough I was watching one of those 'sell your house' progs on Sky last night and one house had oak doors with pine facings and skirtings.

The pine was yellowish and didn't look wonderful but I'm not sure if that was because it was stained that colour or if it had aged that way. Either way it put me off.

Would like to see your pic misgrace, I'm really bad at visualising anything, I always need diagrams and pictures, lol.

i think in 99% of homes, all woodwork (skirtings/frames/windows) should be white. no matter what color the doors are.
in the wrong house, anything else looks a bit naff.
    Get some gorm.

    I love white.

But if you have wood flooring I think the skirting should match the floor.

This one shows a bit of the skirting against the oak floor.
