For Gods sake don't pay the £159 rip off charge.

Have you considered asking ITV? Try the FB page maybe and show them the pic so they know which bit to look at.

Sorry Colin, I have obviously not worded correctly, the iTV thing I've done myself, free. Its the media photo from shutterstock that are asking £159.

I think Colin realises that - he's saying to bypass the rip-off people and go direct to ITV Customer Services to see if they'll be willing to help out (for a more-reasonable charge as necessary).

Then the best I've found with grand daughter looking at Kate's face, has watermarks. Shutterstock charge £159 to remove it. I rang them for info. My daughter (RAF) has asked for the phone number to try an blag a cheaper/freecopy.

Don't suppose it is easy/legal to DIY for private use?
It's certainly not legal (for clarity, it would be a tort, not a crime, so you won't go to jail but could be sued). The photographer, like anyone that creates anything that can be copyrighted, is entitled to charge whatever they feel appropriate to license their work.

Shutterstock is a platform / marketplace, they don't set the prices (slight simplification as there are different ways to use it, but this looks like it will be "premium" content), the photographer that uploads can control that. It is unlikely shutterstock will be in a position to negotiate on price, negotiation would gerenally have to be with the original uploader - if contactable they may be more amenable once they know it's private rather than editorial use, but no guarantee.

and that is exactly what I thought, so will not pursue that idea. Thankfully there are other photo's which are imo, as good, but thanks anyway.

Update. I tweeted the photographer that supplies Shutterstock requesting reduction of fee. He tweeted back asking me to send my email address to him via PM presumably DM.

After writing it and a few words, it seems you cannot do that unless you each follow one another.

I'm not familiar with the world of twitter, so does anyone know if a PM can be sent please?.

  • From what I recall you need to follow each other. I contacted our old work ISP over twitter one one occasion and had to follow them so they could message me.
