You do realise that petrol cars just have to meet euro 4 standard to comply with ulez and they met that standard as far back as 2005. So you can get complaint cars £1000 or less.

On top of that north & south circular expansion will take place in 2021, and if you live in the zone you're expected to get a 2 year grace period to upgrade your vehicle. So you can still drive your banger until September 2023.
People currently living within the ULEZ will be granted a three-year sunset period with 100% discount to give them more time to meet the ULEZ standards, which will expire on 6 September 2023.

The other way around it is to buy a 40 year old car which makes it a classic and it will be expempt from ulez, road tax and even MOT. Get one built in 1983 and it will be perfectly aged to continue ulez free from 2023 onwards.

My 2002 petrol golf is exempt on ulez, it probably sells for £500. Anyone saying this is a tax on the poor is talking bollox. I don't want my children breathing in nox fumes, nox has been proven to retard brain development in young children and predominantly produced by diesel cars.

This is a step forward, I'm looking forward to less diesel cars in London.

People are so misinformed about this, they think they have to drive a £29k car on finance come ulez. But it's very clear you can still drive a petrol banger that's 17 years old without being affected by ulez

My Car will not meet the requirement and is not exempt from ULEZ.
    I have a small 206 Peugeot

Is there any filters I can fit? Any links on this? I can not find anything that I can do
Can not really afford to get a different car. Thus just asking.

    Thanks for any advice.

No, no easy way. You can afford an exempt car - remember, it's only diesels that need to be 2014-on. Petrols are exempt from about 2004.

Simply fit a engine that complies.

You cant afford a £300 car? Sell yours for £300 and you can buy another for £300.

Not that simple. It still wouldn't necessarily comply with Euro6, and wouldn't have been shown to.

You'd need to get it put through all the certification, at the very least.

It'd be cheaper to buy a 5yo diesel, let alone a 15yo petrol.

Maybe non-compliant cars will be sold off in their thousands in London and compliant cars more expensive; drive up North where that will not be a case?

    Seems simple enough to me.
    Don't live in London.
    Or
Get a car that complies with the rules.

It really doesn't need to be more complicated than that.
  • I'm surprised that there haven't been any posts from people who have received ULEZ penalties for driving in the zones in vehicles that are not exempted from the charge and who think that the signs are adverts about it were not clear enough.

Give it time... It's only been across the CC zone for a fortnight.

November 2021 will be thick with 'em.
