BT Sim abroad No no no !
Just got back from my holls, ahh so nice to be back, but what's this, a bill for £72 from BT for voicemail messages. My phone was turned off, never called or received, but still they charged me while out of the EU.
Yes, you got it, I got charged for not using my phone while overseas.
Went to 3 countries and found I could not get texts, and when my phone was turned on, people who called were told 'This number is no longer in service". that's something all my customers want to hear.
BT has very nice operators, I spent many hours talking to them, they said you need to up your spending limit, so I did, to £200, didn't fix the problem.
So, if you would like to be charged for not using your phoen while overseas, not making or recieving calls, then BT is the compnay for you. I'm off to Vodafone who have the strange idea that I won't be charged for not using my phone out of the EU.

so your voicemail divert was ON?0

Yes, but the phone was turned off. Used 5 other mobile companies, never been a problem, only BT charged me.0

You need to turn voicemail divert off before leaving the UK. Think of it this way, The phone call to you was diverted to the foreign country at expense to BT Mobile to enter the voicemail system as an international call. That's why the charge has been made0

What a pompous, patronising and condescending message.
This is a post about BT charges.
If you read my post I explain that 5 other companies I used did not charge for voicemail while oversases while BT does. That's the reason for my post and a warning to others travelling with a BT Sim.0 -

You mention moving to Vodafone... out of the frying pan into the fire, only Voda have a dedicated complaints thread on here.
I guess Pmduk hit the nail on the head with VM divert. There are plenty of overseas roamers on this forum, the usual way to minimise cost overseas (other than using a network with “free” roaming to your chosen countries) is to use a local SIM, turning your UK mobile off while still in the UK.
The last thing to do is increasing an already ridiculous price cap. £200??? I don’t spend £5 in a year over my monthly cost.0 -
I'm sorry if you felt my explanation was pompous and condescending. Many people misunderstand roaming costs and I made a mistake in helping you, as I have on other threads. It won't happen again.0

BT use EE, so it's hardly a surprise0
