  • I'm unclear what kind of "messages" these are - SMS ? Email? Whatsapp? Or are they just "pop-ups" that look like messages.



    Anyway, best action is ensure that all your data (photos etc) is backed-up, and do a factory reset on the phone. That will fix it. Then, methodically restore the apps that YOU NEED, one-by-one.

    Thanks everyone, I have done a factory reset. I think they are called push notifications.

    Still all fine after 24 hours.

    You say you are on hotel WiFi? If so it could be their proxy pushing them out to your phone.

    OP you can disable push notifications in your chrome app - I forget exactly how but google should tell you ..
    It is somewhere in "privacy and security => notifications" IIRC

    Yes, this. Start afresh, install apps one by one and if you start getting the messages again you will have a fair idea of which one is the culprit. I often find this a good exercise too as I usually end up not installing all the apps again as I have not used a lot of them in a while.
    Retired at age 56 after having "light bulb moment" due to reading MSE and its forums. Have been converted to the "budget to zero" concept and use YNAB for all monthly budgeting and long term goals.
