Removing it leaves a car with a void warranty, and very likely starship mileage, which isn't the car he paid for.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

As Stoke says, they are just the modern equivalent of disconnecting the speedo cable for half the year. I had a colleague who did that in the 1980s, as he used to clock up 500 miles a week commuting on the motorway.
(This was in The Olden Days when the M6/M42 used to do 80mph at 7AM. I pass underneath it now around that time and I can see it is virtually stationary.)
That happened on an old Mazda I owned. The cable came disconnected. Indeed, you could drive forever with no mileage recorded at all.0 -
