My son was wearing a brand new down jacket in a local pub owned by Greenking. He caught the jacket on a nail protruding from the wall and got a rip in the sleeve.
The manager of the pub has said if my Son purchases another jacket and takes it in with the receipt they will reimburse him.
The manager also states that he would require the damaged jacket handing over as part of this agreement.
Does this sound a reasonable was to resolve ?
Thanks

What did the jacket cost?0 -
I would also want it in writing, would be all too simple for the manager to deny all knowledge of the conversation0

That's entirely reasonable ... your son isn't entitled to a new jacket AND keep the old one; the manager is offering to replace "new for old" thus is entitled to receive the old one in exchange.0 -
It cost £2000

I know, but what exactly does he mean by that.0 -
Let's approach it a different way;
Why are you asking this question? What specific concerns do you have right now about the proposed arrangement?0 -
Sounds like a good deal to me if the landlord honours his verbal offer. What else could you want? Not compo, surely?0

I’m looking for assurance that this is a correct way of resolution, not seeking compensation other than like for like replacement in value, however what reason is there to hand in the damaged goods and what would the pub do with it? Should an agreement be made to completely destroy that jacket and then dispose of while witnessed by both parties0
