Hi
Hoping someone could advise please.
Son bought a new laptop for uni. He chose a Dell which we have now found out runs on Ubuntu (never heard of it) and he can't get microsoft office on it. Which is difficult he would rather have windows and office for uni, he knows office, his group use office etc.
Does anyone know if we or a computer shop can put windows on the laptop wiping over Ubuntu and then he can buy office to put on it?
He paid £500 for the laptop and doesnt really want to have to go out and buy another.
Thank You as we really havent a clue.

dells are sold with windows or ubunto as std , think ubunto is free but windows costs
he can go to a computer shop and pay to have windows installed , or he can go online and buy a copy , complete with key online ,
slightly more than "no clue" is needed to install , consult a passing 5 yr old for assistance
there is one listed here (a disk/usb stick - not a child)

Simple answer is yes he can wipe the OS and install Windows should he choose to. Question is why did he buy the laptop in the first place with Ubuntu installed, surely this is something you would notice when buying it.0

May I suggest than most 'passing 5 yr olds' are competent smart phone/tablet users, but less so at installing W10.0 -
He can buy Windows 10. If he goes to Dell's support site then any drivers he needs will be on there.
It is perfectly possible to install MS Office on Ubuntu using WINE but its a faff. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Or better still use Libre Office, which is probably pre-installed, if not it’s an easy and free download.
Nobody needs anything from Microsoft for ordinary home/office applications. Linux has everything necessary, including Libre Office and Firefox.0 -

Where did he get it from? I need a new laptop and don't use Windows so would be good not to pay for the licence.0 -
