Lowell will they report on my file ?

Options
Hello

Today in the post I received a letter from Lowell debt collection asking about an address I lived at 6 years ago whilst a student, I called them up and confirmed I lived there. They said 700£ was owed for gas for the last month I lived there and 2 months after I moved out. Ten of us lived in the house and I don't remember a bill at the time and this is the first I have heard about it !

Anyway I am pregnant and in the middle of buying a house so couldn't be bothered with the stress and paid what I owed in full...So 10 percent of 700.

My question is British Gas have never reported this on my credit file ( I check it monthly) and although they told Lowell they had in 2014 when the advisor looked he confirmed they hadn't. My main worry is that they will now report it on my file Lowell have confirmed they won't as there is nothing to update on there (I have spoken to a couple of different people in there now ).

Just wanted to check if people thought this was correct ?As with buying a house etc I'm now stressing.

Thanks in advance
Sophie

  • If Lowell are saying they won't then they likely won't.

If however they do, then call them back.
  • lowell are a set of lying scammers

who,s name was the account in , when did you move out (month/year)

as you can see in this posting , lowell are cretins https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5884390

have you contacted british gas yet?
  • Thanks for coming back. I was just so flusted - me and my partner are about to buy a house after saving up a deposit and now this ! They are saying the account was in my name which I don't remember and as it was student accommodation the landlord was meant to pay bills, the electronic roll and other bills provide proof I wasn't living there at the time. They are saying the bill is from Feb 2013. I just hope they don't randomly stick a default on there that effects getting a mortgage!

ok , you need to contact british gas , as this is in dispute

read my thread where eon said they could not help as i had been passed on WRONG!!! the ombudsman hammered them for that

you want a copy of bills that were sent previous to leaving , showing YOU were responsable

look again at my case , I have passed blame on to my builder - eon/lowell will chase him now , perhaps this is what your old landlord did , just pass blame to you , thinking you could not be contacted

lowell will NOT help or assist , and will at the drop of the hat issue CCJ papers

    attack it thru british gas

EDIT: in my case I showed lowell profe of new address , hell I even showed it to eon , there best answer "you might own 2 houses" priceless

No they won't, especially for a disputed debt.

lowells WILL start court action , even if disputed , unless BG recall the sale of the debt

yes , you can dispute there claim , however without anything firm from BG , who will be interested ?

Which is fine. Don't tell people they WILL do something when that's not correct.
  • and they "might" just start reporting defaults on credit files until they are told via BG to stop
