Benson's for Beds Refund

Struggling to get a full refund from Bensons because of a T&C that says they charge 20% for returns. The problem is we didn't return the item, they couldn't deliver it to our flat, we told them at the sale our lift was small, and the stairs are average at best. The salesman happily took the money and said it will be fine, assuring us they would get it up 4 flights of stairs.

The delivery people arrived and couldn't get it up the first flight of stairs, and also weren't told it was on the 4th floor. They gave us the option of leaving it in the lobby with my wife who was the only one home, or taking it back. She obviously told them to take it back because she had no way of getting it back up the stairs herself.

Visited the store and the manager refused to give us our full money back, even though they failed to deliver it. He forced us to choose another mattress instead or risk losing the 20% on a £1500 mattress, and said it was our fault for not measuring the stairs. I wouldn't have placed the order if they needed stairs dimensions first, £1500 is not a small amount of money to play around with, but we were never told we needed to provide measurements.

Any advice on what we can do to get a refund? Don't really want to have a mattress that we were forced to get as an alternative. Would rather get the money back and do some more research.

    Sales people will tell you anything to get a sale.
    Have you got anything to confirm this was agreed? Otherwise it's your word against theirs unfortunately.

    Bensons for beds sold my aged mother an adjustable bed for over £600. She was not well when she visited the shop and was unable to try properly. The bed was delivered, built up and was promptly discovered not to be appropriate. Bensons were contacted immediately and asked to come and collect without it being used. They have declined and now my 85yr old mother has the anxiety of this which is making her even more ill. Bensons has no empathy, consideration for their customers or scruples. Customer services are a disgrace and took weeks to even bother to reply. Do not go near them if you want any sort of considerate after sales service.

    Why was she visiting a store if she wasn't well? What's more why buy a bed you can't try out?

    I'm afraid your mother (and/or her advocate) bears some responsibility for the situation. Retailers cannot be expected to assess the fitness of every customer when there is no obvious concern.

    What was your involvement in helping your aged mother shopping for a new bed?

    Pls help with what is my rights. Bought new 1000 mattress from benson. Delivered 3rd March. After a 1 night mattress got dint. Today i had surveyor to statu its faulty. 
    Guy in benson shop told me I won't get refirn i need to spent the same amount I have already paid for this one on new matteras. 
    But if I want different which is cheaper I'm expecting benson to give me refund. 

    What's is my rights pls
