Good Morning chums and a rather damp and dark morning it is at the moment

camelot I too have had not a great time after my flu jab I have been having one every year for years without ill effects, but this year I have felt really quite rotten.I have had so much catarrh and felt like I have a permanent cold all the time ,and this morning my throat feels like barbed wire.
Not too sure if its really done much good at all.its been two weeks since my jab.The nurse said that this years jab apparently for the older patients was a bit stronger than usual. May have to rethink next year.

Tru, when my DGS Danny worked for Endemol the TV production company he worked on several of Gok Wan's shows, and said he was one of the best guys to work for Very friendly and down to earth and would chat to all the crew, and was just as happy to natter to all the folk working with him and not in the least bit 'starry' at all.He worked on TV for 6 years before going to work in the USA and said the nicest people were often not the one you would think of .Apparently the 'diva's were Esther Rantzen and Angela Rippon, the latter being a bit of a nightmare to work with.Nicest were Gok Wan,Terry Wogan and Lionel Blair who he found to be a real gentleman to the staff.
Danny worked on Pointless for around five years and said Richard Osman was very nice as was Xander. He is quite happy now though working in NYC and I don't think he would come back to work in the UK at the moment as he is enjoying life so much out there

Holly I hope you are recovering OK and taking things easy, and Mrs TA baby steps, and one day at a time honey, you must look after yourself as well as the family.

Yesterday was my eldest Dds birthday and my friends is tomorrow then I have DGS Bens coming up on the 16th and my youngest DDs on the 19th, I am hoping to get Ben's birthday present this week at some point ,probably on Thursday when I am driving into London for the day.

Most stuff I have bought and wrapped only a few more to go thank goodness

Right time for some tea I think Have a good day chums whatever you are doing keep warm and well wrapped up

  • Good Morning, all :hello: - wet and chilly here today :(.

nmlc - thanks for starting the thread again this morning :T. Fingers crossed that your co-workers come back to work.
camelot - isn't it amazing how some items can 'disappear' when you are re-ordering a room - only to turn up a couple of years later ................. the mind boggles ;).
Hester - enjoy your day looking at 'more boats' ;).
TA - with all these people coming 'n' going, your place is sounding like Grand Central Station at the moment :j.
redruby - congrats on winning the bacon prize :T. :rotfl: at you finding a bone buried under your pillow during the night. Due to being quite 'snuffy' in the middle of the night, I keep an 'lbas Sniffy Stick' under MY pillow - I can just imagine me rummaging for it, half asleep, and find a doggy bone instead !
tru - maybe Master Tru wanted to get the gift-giving done in private, instead of within a 'group' - or perhaps they just had so many gift bags around their place, that they thought it best to get them all 'out of the way' to clear space in their own home. Hope your caffeine kicks in soon ;).
snoozer - sounds like you had a lovely weekend, thought what a shame about Steve's Labyrinthitis spoiling things for him.
ScarletRibbons - enjoy your Christmas Lunch and hope your back eases off soon :(.
LaineyT - hope that your physio goes well.
silver-oldie - how lovely that Nelski's suggestion worked so well with your DMum :j! Well done at managing to empty a freezer :D!
Speky - it's good that your Gran approves of where you live - she'll be less likely to worry about you, as long as she knows that you live in 'a good area' ;). After my DDad died, my DMum was a 'Live-in Housekeeper/Companion' in Altrincham for many years - she loved it there.
JackieO - the Practice Nurse said exactly the same thing to me about the FluJab - that it's 'stronger' this year :(. I haven't actually been 'ill', but I was rather 'out of things' for a couple of days immediately afterwards :(.

Sending prayers and ((((Healing Hugs)))) for all who need them.

Had a lovely Sunday - church in the morning followed by refreshments and chatting afterwards. Church looked lovely with the Christmas Tree up and 1st Advent Candle being lit during the service.

Had taken some Belly Pork out of the freezer to defrost - I thought it was slices, but it turned out to be a 'solid slab' so took quite a while to defrost - hence we were eating at 8.00pm . Belly Pork, 'rustic mash', steamed carrots and steamed broccoli with gravy . OH had Chicken Thighs, so there's lots of the pork left - salad for tonight :j.

While waiting for the pork to defrost, I had a lazy afternoon watching Robert Powell in 'Jesus of Nazareth' - lovely to see so many actors who are no longer with us .

I'm in the Charity Shop this afternoon, so need to get a shufty on .......................... or my hair won't be dry.

Take care all and have a lovely Oldstyle Day - luv Ollie xxx

Morning. It’s very wet here this morning washing the bedding will leave on the rack and put in th the dryer later. Working at lunch and this afternoon. Salmon for tea but I cooked extra veg yesterday so just need to reheat them
  • Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

Its a very grey morning.......hardly light we have the lamps on in the sitting room.

Speky - glad you family approved of your new abode.

We had a quiet weekend, OH had a headache spike last night, had to give him the medication, marked the date I opened the bottle, it has to be thrown out after 90 days.

OH on to the pensions people this morning, it takes 28 working days from the date its granted for the extra AA payment to be made, its not due through until the beginning of January by which time they will owe us a small fortune, Its a good job we have a decent emergency fund.

Load of washing in the dryer, its never going to dry outside......

Busy week one way or another, we have library and haircuts today, cleaner tomorrow, coffee morning Weds, delivery of OH's 'pusher' Thursday and a visit to my Quilting friend on Friday and we are also out on Saturday morning at the little chapel for a 'big breakfast' raising money for a local charity. Next week is not much better either.

Just have to put the binding on the two table runners, then a hand sewing marathon to get them ready to go to their new homes. Sewing side of the machine is then going to be shut off and the embroidery unit attached. I plan to play a bit on that.

Egg and chips for tea tonight, OH did not eat his supper last night, so we still have 3/4 of a bowl of fruit in jelly for desserts should do another couple of nights.
  • Weird weather at the moment in Kent the skies have cleared and its now bright sunshine so I shall make the most of it and take myself for a walk around the park this morning whilst I can,may clear my stuffy head a bit. It was like this yesterday as well one minute dark and dreary then brightens up and is nice and sunny then an hour or so later it clouds over and it dark again Very odd :)

bigdaftkid I have emailed you what you asked for let me know if you get it OK, and hope you are ok after being in the hospital

Morning! Todays advent chocolate was a Chocolate Milano - dark chocolate, very nice with coffee.
Watched Masterchef, what a shame about Daves puds, I reckon he might have stayed in if not for that, they were really impressed with his food! Have hospital appt today, have four boxes of kitchen stuff to sort to go in garage, did start on it last night but haven't got anywhere, although have taken the big brown bowl [remember them? brown on the outside, cream on the inside? Found it in a charity shop years ago for about three quid, bargain!] and the maslin pan out, also found the muslins [ which were actually recycled arm slings , fabric, from a first aid course I went on years ago] so I can make the quince jelly later this week. Have so much to do but just can't do it....It is finally dawning on me I am not superwoman...it is most annoying.
My sister and father are visiting at the weekend and I have plans to make trifles, sausage rolls and mince pies [ using the recipe on this board] so let's hope I can get that together!
I missed the flu jab this year thanks to having the cold, and judging by the comments, probably a good job I did.
My sewing teacher is not very well at the moment, she's so lovely, and slightly evil in a good way, which I like in a person. You know when people are quick, have a breadth of knowledge and are just quite sharp in general, funny with it? That's her. Except she has the advantage of a lovely sweet voice, so it doesn't matter what she says, it comes out sounding lovely. I think she's fab, hope she gets better soon.

Gers, you've still got red squirrels? How nice. And how did the cheesecake come out? Tru, concurrence from Gok, that's a red letter day for scampi! Glad you had a nice weekend speky and your gran approves. SO, glad the idea worked, it's never as much fun if the person ignoring you is being ignored in turn....play her at her own game :) Holly, your health is more important than Christmas, hope you do go in for it. I'm having mine on the 12th so I should be able to report back after that if you want me to? Chin up, chest out! [no pun intended!] Wotcha Poppy and Nanny. Hope everyone is OK or doing as well as they can. I may nt have mentioned all of you, but I do think about you, and enjoy reading your posts, thank you for having me :)
Have a great beginning week day :)

    Morning all,
I have to stay in today as DS has a big back massager he hired being picked up .Its done the trick and he feels much better.( He'll feel even better once he gets the big deposit back :D) So I intend to clear all the laundry/ironing and have a big tidy. Its not stopped raining for nearly 2 days, and the stream down the hill across the road is now a river again after practically running dry over the summer.
We didnt see the DGC much this weekend as DS took them both to the DGS Xmas fair after his football, and then there was a party.DS bought me a wreath for the door from the fair and was a bit cross when he got it out of the box as it wasnt decorated but the one they were demonstrating was,so I'm having a go at that today. The hospice shop were doing bags of baubles for £1yesterday. so we got red, green and gold. I hope my glue gun has some left in it.
I've got some mince out for tea -not sure what I'll do with it yet. DS1 was out yesterday so only 3 of us and I cooked a turkey roulade I got reduced in marks. It was really nice, I said I should just have got3 for Xmas dinner,it was a lot easier than doing the whole big turkey thing :rotfl:I made bread and butter pud for after, yum.
    Love to Holly,Taff and Poppy.
TA lovely to see you posting- you'll certainly be busy this week.Hope you don't get too mixed up with your bags :D
Speky- good to hear you all enjoyed your weekend.

    Hello all

We were out early in the lashing rain this morning for Mr Fix It's blood test, ready for his oncology review appointment on the 19th. Not looking forward to that after the last one :(.
Anyway called in to the local garden centre for coffee to fortify the great blood loss :rotfl:( think Tony Hancock ) and then for being so brave, the wood shop on the way home, for yet more wood .
Now Mr Fix It is ensconced back in his shed, I shall endeavour to potter about, doing some odd jobs. I keep looking at things and thinking " I must do that today " and then forgetting about it till next time.... it's a bit like ground hog day :rotfl:.
Tea tonight will be a chicken burger in a bun, with chips/salad.

Right better get up off my rear and make a start. Please will someone give me a push ?
Thinking of all the poorlies, the worried and those struggling with daily life at present.
Hope everyone has a good Monday. Take care and hugs to all.
    nan xx

  • Silver Oldie,
have you seen the promotion called 'purple Tuesdays'?
I think its something fairly new but if it takes off it might help your shopping problems, I have just googled it to read more about it.
  • Morning (just). A quick hello as I need to go shopping for boring things and stocking fillers.

Had a goodish weekend but very little sleep, I am being woken by noise outside. A bbc film crew has hired the nearby car park. Actual filming is elsewhere. They were here for a fortnight, all went home on Friday but they returned in the middle of the night. The people were quiet but the vehicles are mahoosive so noisy and they use generators and I am slightly bothered by the hum from those. So I hope our council, who own the land, gets a nice whack from hiring out the place.

I made a chicken Sunday dinner last night but by the time I'd served it wasn't all that hungry so I just ate a bit of veg and have just eaten my piece of chicken for an early lunch. That's my protein for the day, OH is making Spag bol this evening and I don't like that so I'll find something lighter to eat.

Scampi is famous now! Thinking about Eve, one of my little dogs used to bury her bonito in the middle of the sitting room. Her burial method was simply doing nudging movements with her nose and she was always disappointed when she returned since the other dog waited until she wasn't looking before nabbing it.

I must go, sending positive thoughts go all those who need them.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
