Hi all.
Been a lurker for a while, but have now got to change car suddenly and earlier than expected. Thought about Chevy Orlandos. Are they any good? Can anyone suggest anything that might be a good option?
diesel or petrol? high mileage matter much?
budget £7000
trips unto 400 miles at a time
20,000+ miles a year
5 or 7 seater
<60,000 on the clock

Never heard of em. They're going to be hard to find a few to choose from. Would you consider a better motor that's more mainstream? Vauxhall, ford etc?0

Would consider anything - just want to get something that's roomy and reliable. Not worried if it's not mainstream.0

Possible long-term problems with servicing, and parts availability. Probably cheap to buy, but even cheaper to sell on.0 -
When cash is short, is it better to got for an older car with low mileage, or a newer high mileage car?
What sort of mileage is a no-no?0 -
7k isn't exactly cheap
Buy on condition rather than age or mileage, a neglected 3yr old low mileage car is much less appealing than an older higher mileage vehicle that has been looked after.0 -
You can pick up Dusters for under 7k. They use Renault parts so will be readily available should anything go wrong. Get the 1.5 Diesel. They are a bit spartan but my 63 reg has only had 1 issue with a blocked drainage pipe that caused a water ingress. Dealer sorted without any issues.0

Chevrolet was just a rebrand for Daewoo, before they left the European market completely in 2014 due to poor sales.
Mechanically, it's the same as the Cruze saloon/estate. Body and trim parts might be hard to get.
They're huge for the price (far, far larger than a Duster - a big sprogbus is not the same market as a small SUV), but they were regarded as mediocre even when new. If you really must, then buy a cheap one - not a £7k top-end-of-market one. Or look at some of the budget-brand manufacturers that are still here.0 -
How often would you need seats 5 & 7? Do you need to use the boot at the same time?
If it's infrequent, I'd be looking at something like the Vauxhall Zarifa - plenty in your price bracket and should be pretty cheap in terms of maintenance (since they are quite common)
Chevy Orlandos should be available pretty cheap since Chevy left the UK, so the trade off there is a longer wait for parts.0 -
Skoda Superb 2.0 tdi estate?
Loads of space and reliable,only 5 seats though.0 -
