Pic showing nut on inside of cistern.
Can’t understand how the leak has got so bad. I can only turn water on when I need it.
The ball valve is working fine as it shuts of the water on refill.
Thanks, so there is a nut on the inside. :o

But you say water is coming out around the nut on the outside of the cistern?

Is it only happening when the cistern is filling, or is it all the time? (assuming all the time from what you say but just checking)

If you know how, cut the pipe and fit this instead.

It could also be that the plastic thread as developed a hairline crack and will never be fixed. Both are cheap to replace at the same time.

Looking at your latest photo I would say that the big brass nut is so deep there is not enough of the plastic thread to tighten it? Would 2 fibre washers give you a little bit of an extra turn to tighten the joint?

Seems to be dripping where the brass nut meets the plastic one. It happens has soon as I turn water on at mains.

Have tried a couple of fibre washers but still leaks.

That looks a good idea. I have a pipe cutter. Just hope there’s enough room around the pipe to rotate it.
I think I’ll try and get a replacement ball valve first that has a brass thread. Not sure though if these lever type ones are still available.

Looking at the first pic that is a tap connector, old but still a tap connector, the brass ring is flat and not conical like an olive. I suspect it is a crack in the plastic as once done up fairly firmly against the washer tap connectors don't often leak and I doubt changing it will solve the problem. That flexi will be a nightmare trying to bend that tight.

Lever type are a rare beast nowadays but B&Q still stock one. https://www.diy.com/departments/delchem-side-entry-ball-!!!!-fill-valve/284491_BQ.prd

Have been shopping and got a replacement lever type valve (same as shown) and some Plumbers Maite. No problem with availability of the lever type both at Homebase and Ridgeons.
The consensus was that a fibre washer should be all that’s needed as the plastic thread looked ok.
I’ll see how it goes with the new part.

Is the new one plastic or brass?

If plastic, check to see whether the Plumbers Mait is ok for use with plastics - normally it isn't because it is oil-based and the oils can attack plastic.
