You might, but their answer would be irrelevant. To answer this you need a marketing person. Only a marketeer can explain how FTTC can be offered as "fibre optic brodband" when, on the same basis, plain old ADSL could be marketed as fibre optic broadband.

I have been offered a fibre optic broadband deal by TT.

I live in a flat and can see the BT copper cable coming to my flat.

How is it possible to purchase an effective fibre optic service with a long copper wire being the last stage of connection?
Just the same way the Virgin off fibre optic broadband but have a copper coaxial cable going into their customer's houses.

With fibre broadband it is usually FTTC - fibre to the green cabinet. This means the run of copper used is a lot shorter and faster speeds are possible. Some people to get FTTH/FTTP which has the fibre terminating at the actual property but TalkTalk don't offer that.

    Namely, by misleading customers.

Anything short of FTTP is just marketing hyperbole.

We're over a mile from the exchange & about a 10 yards from the fibre cabinet. We went from about 8Mbps with copper to about 80Mbps with fibre to the cabinet.

Because the fibre goes to the cabinet in the street, the copper part of the run is much shorter, allowing for higher frequencies and therefore higher speeds ..

This really shouldn't be sold as fibre broadband as it is really just VDSL

Would Joe Public know the difference? They are just nonsensical acronyms to most people.
The speed increase is all they are interested in, not necessarily how it gets there....

See recent court ruling for ASA about the advertising of "fibre broadband", they are officially allowed to call FTTC "fibre broadband"

I have been with TT (of some form) for 17 years and never have had any problems that were not resolved quickly and withot finacial detriment to myself
They are cheaper than the opposition and as far as I am concerned - just as good

I would choose TT over BT anytime - as for Virgin - I don't have any experience so can't comment !
I live just across the road from the cabinet and connect reliably at 80Mbps - compared to less than 2Mbps on ADSL !

And i would choose BT over TT anytime in fact would not use TT if it was free .

However as most ISPs use the same line from OR and copper from the cabinet is often the point of problems ,it varies with users .
