All the above but it works best if you sell something you know a lot about.

It's 100x easier if you have a good knowledge of an area without trying to go in blind.

Completely agree with this - sell what you know about. What are your hobbies - when you search for items related to that hobby are some useful things hard to get hold of?

I recently bought a tool, needed a spare for it but couldn't find it on ebay. After a good amount of searching I found a pattern sized replacement that I bought and it fit. I set up a listing stating that it was a non-genuine compatible part for the tool and it sells....

I make money because it is the only listing that comes up when you search for this spare for this tool and people are happy with the item and price, they dont have to faff around searching and then buying something that might not fit, and once the listings is setup and i know what to buy then its easy for me.

I did think that and was trying to find a polite way of explaining it :o

Hmm yes, my daughter once tried to sell her cabin crew shoes - funny (peculiar) men made several enquiries with regard to purchasing them to sniff.

I doubt many women suffer from the same fetish with regard to used men's shoes somehow. But it takes all sorts.

Any women with shoes to sell should advertise them as worn nurses / cabin crew / teachers / policewoman shoes to fully capitalise on the pervert market.

Charge extra for particularly smells ones.:rotfl:

I have taught myself what sells and what doesn't.
I find it easier to work backwards.
If I pay £5 for something, I expect to sell it for £20 at the very least , hence I buy items accordingly.Buy cheap and sell high.

I know someone who gave this a go, but quickly quit as she got creeped out by the messages asking if they could come and collect in person!

Some years back I was selling second-hand comics, annuals and magazines; buying them at charity shops or off market stalls, reading and then selling on. That was also when there was a competing site called QXL and I bought a few things there and resold on eBay. I wasn't making a lot of profit but I was covering my costs and funding an interest. I gave up when the sources started to realise and put up prices. But if you know a niche or are prepared to hunt round car boots - you might find a gap.
I need to think of something new here...

Sometimes it's just being in the right place at the right time. I picked up 35mm point and shoot camera from a house clearance guy for £1 on a car boot.

I guess he didn't know the make 'Leica' - made a nice £150 off that one. But that's the only Leica camera I've seen before or since :)
  • phone covers / screen protectors- will always in need, and quite light, so postage is cheap.

usb plugs- have seen double ports in the pound shop, though maybe one of their special higher priced items..

There are tens of thousands people mainly Far East sellers selling phone cases from 99p , I'm not sure this is a viable business model when a business would almost certainly be making a loss after taking into account stock unsold.

As for ports, the over the counter cost of postage RM 2nd class would be £2.95 from which eBay and PayPal would take approx 40p in additional charges, so before you even start to make a profit you are looking at costs of £4.45 minimum.
