Locked into Orange contract?

Hi all, hope someone can help...

I signed up with Orange in April 2007, and I'm not using half of the minutes and texts I'm paying for - I've called to change tariff and been informed that Orange don't allow their customers to change tariff until 9 months into the contract, and even then they will only allow a switch to a more expensive tariff. Does anyone know how I can possibly get out of this? Not wanting to leave Orange, just downgrade.:mad:

you normally can downgrade after 9 months but only by one tariff drop at a time, i.e. you can't drop staright to the cheapest one. Other than that, you took teh contract and agreed to the terms so there is not much Orange did wrong. Sell the phone you got with it and buy a cheap Orange PAYG and swap SIMS to offset some of the cost.
