Admitted we have email facilities as standard these days - but I still think it's pushing it for someone to try and say "less than 4 weeks". Reason being - Britain hasn't turned into an efficient country during that time and I don't expect it will do so in my lifetime.
We're not the worst country in the world for efficiency - but we've still got a heck of a long way to go before the country runs efficiently (or most people even expect it to and complain when it doesnt).0 -

4 weeks is totally unnecessary. If everyone in the chain has signed the contracts, all mortgages agreed and signed, all searches etc complete and ready to exchange then the only thing left to do is confirm the moving date with the removals company you got a survey done on earlier in the process. Why should that take four weeks?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Not forgetting sorting out the services, redirecting post, telling everyone about the new address, packing, etc.
So - what's the Big Hurry that some people try and impose on the rest of us? Why do these people want this?0 -

A week is more than enough to get all that done. You can get it done in about 2-3 hours now with the wonderful modern inventions of the internet and the phone.
The 'big hurry' is that people decided to move for a reason, and its a slow enough process as it is without adding an unnecessary 3 week delay on the end for no good reason!0 -

Of course we're an efficient country. Astoundingly and impressively so. We're talking about moving house, not running the entire NHS or trying to mobilise the entire rail network in snow.
If anyone has a vague idea of what is happening then a week is fine. No services need to be 'cut off' at all. You take meter readings and most things can be done after the day if there's genuinely no time before, but nothing takes more than a few minutes as a job, other than packing.
Four weeks is a concession, not a normality.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

If exchange had been Friday, that'd be 28/12. If exchange is Monday, that'd be 31/12.
Why would anybody not think those ideal dates for completion and moving...?0 -
After speaking to her (bit shocked to be honest at the conversation) I got to thinking, they are supposed to be working for us, we are certainly paying enough for the privilege shouldn't they be working to our instructions not our buyers
Am I being unreasonable?
She is working in your interest and trying to get across the message that it would be in your interest to get on with it.
(Of course it is also in her interest of getting paid!)
If the 7th really is too stressful then suggest some date between the two. Never understood why people want to complete on Friday anyway, higher risk of delay without help if something slips up.0 -
When I find my house to buy I would not want more than two weeks between exchange and completion. Why spend longer being financially responsible for a building I have no control over?An answer isn't spam just because you don't like it......0

We had 1 day between exchange and completion, good thing we started packing weeks before we even thought about completion dates...
You can talk about completion dates at any point in the process however you just don't pay removal companies deposits etc until it's more set in stone0 -

I would struggle with a week - would not be possible to take 2-3 hours during a working day to get things organised. I rarely even manage my half hour lunch break. And I often don't get home till between 6 and 7 pm if the motorway is bad, by which time places are generally closed. It does depend on individual circumstances. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0
