    Hi mustbemoreorganised,

You should get more help with this on the Mobile Phones board so I've moved your thread across.

Be aware that the SIM's are sometimes glued into 3 PAYG handsets.

  • My son had a 3 phone a while ago & decided he'd like to be able to switch to another company, got the phone unlocked but every other card he tried caused the phone to become unstable. Even putting the original card back in didn't fix the problems so he recycled the phone & got himself a better model.

  • 3 Only ever actually glued the SIM in one Model, "A really cheap ZTE Flip phone", it was actually epoxy resin sealed in (you could get it out with a bit of careful scapel work)..

The reason they did it was the phones came with a PAYG sim that offered unlimited free calls to other 3 numbers for 12 months, and they did not want them putting in other handsets, but it backfired and they came out easily with a scalpel. No others have been glued in again since.

I've found Motorola phones the easiest to unlock as they have a built in usb socket which makes it a doddle to unlock.

Nokia are a pain to unlock without a cable & can easily be permanently locked, I've got one sitting on my desk here in that state because I was given the wrong code, I have to buy a special cable to get it unlocked or pay someone with the cable to do it for me.
