Esa assessment please read

I was sent for a assessment today after being taxi authorised because my doctor said I need a home assessment as I can’t go out but they said because I go to my GP I can go to an assessment even though I don’t go to my GP it’s telephone appointments and has been for ages.

ANYWAY I turned up after waiting an hour nearly I was called in and she asked me about 4-5 questions and was sent home after 10 minutes she shut the book and said right I’m done I said what do you mean she said you can go home now darling? I literally never got to tell her anything about me nothing about my diagnosises, hospital or test results from my flexible sigmoidoscopy or any medication I’m on, I know I already put that in my ESA50 but surely she should of gone through that with me? I’m only 17 and first time claim I didn’t expect to go home so fast she said I should have a decision within 3-4 weeks if not ring them up..

Has anyone else had this? Thanks

  • Depends on your illness I suppose, and if you gave them the relevant documents for a paper based assessment - but the fact that they called you in would contradicts the requirement of a paper based assessment.

Sounds dubious... What were the 4 or 5 questions asked?

All she asked was have I ever felt suicidal I said yes she said you have chronic pain in your body I said yeah she said do you go out I said I can’t go out because I’m bed bound ( I had a medical professional letter from my PIP claim that confirmed this that I sent ) she asked if I eat I said I can’t really eat much as I it affects my stomach and bowels and she said do I talk to my family I said yeah I’m close to them and she said how old are you I said 17 then she sent me home?
  • Well, that is a very short assessment.
Hopefully she was satisfied that you aren't fit for work.

If the result comes back that you are fit for work, I'd definitely challenge the decision based on the extremely short interview. (request a copy of the assessment if it comes to it).

At your age, I wouldn't advise attending these appointments or assessments alone.
If you have a family member or a support worker, I'd definitely take them along in future, should hopefully reduce the chances of you getting fobbed off.

I never attended alone I had my aunt with me but I never took her in with me as I thought I’d have to say personal stuff but clearly not lol I’ve never heard of such a quick assessment it surprised me maybe she thought I was fit for work but I got a list of problems As she never asked for my medication I get enhanced daily living and enhanced mobility PIP so hopefully that helps I never needed an assessment for that it was paper decision?
  • No point taking a witness with you if they aren't in the room to witness!

If your PIP & Mobility (I'm not well versed in the disability area) was awarded via paper the based avenue then this could be an indicator that she had all the proof she needed.

    Now, only time will tell.

    Keep us updated.

How did you reconcile this with your journey to the assessment?

    Sigh.

Probably with a lot of help from other people, and inconvenience to the OP.

Sounds to me like you should have had a paper-based assessment and you're assessor realised that upon seeing you. Only my opinion, but I think it's a good sign.

More likely the person who read the paperwork thought it could be marginal so requested face to face. Once the assessor actually saw the OP it was clear that there was little need to go in depth.
  • I would hope there was finally some logic appearing and agree, the assessor might be wondering why on earth you had been called to a face to face assessment. I don't understand why this happened and your reasons weren't listened to. But hey ho, lets see what they come back with.

To be honest, I don't know you, but I'm quite peeved they put you through all that given your conditions and age.
