Too blummin' right! It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!12

Hopefully I always found her posts really interesting and definitely learnt some prepping things. Has anyone heard from Elaine? I haven't seen any posts recently, I am not in here much either RL has taken over with one thing or another.10

Evening all (bends knees, hands clasped behind back).
A little bird told me that I was being mentioned in dispatches so I thought it would be polite to stroll on over and say Hi and thank you for all the lovely comments. It is appreciated.I haven't logged on for the longest time but I'm not reading in the background either; just not on MSE at all. Mainly because of various upsets some time ago, which one won't dwell on as negativity doesn't do anyone any good.Well, Wild Thing turned 17 in September (the Queen of Sheba got cancer and had to be pts a few years ago, they were litter mates but not friendly). WT has blossomed being an only child and has the entire household firmly under her paw. She's in winter mode now, spending most of her time indoors mugging for fish, cuddles, brushings, fish and occasionally chicken. My allotment has a handsome leek patch, which I fought the slugs for with Cold Steel as they tried to eat everything down to nubbins when the leeks were transplanted. I had to kill upwards of 100 each evening just to hold the line. Vile creatures. I'm now eating them (the leeks, not the slugs)! The broad beans were sown two weeks ago yesterday, after a 48 hour soaking, and I hope to see them poking out of the soil by next weekend. Other than that, it's a case of forking out the horsetails and indulging my love of bonfiring. Oh, and a bliddy mouse got into my allotment shed and ate the sunflower head which I was drying for seeds. Serves me right - dragged everything out and gave it a good clean and have encased any surviving seeds in tins.Metal and glass being the only true defenses against rodents, sadly, they can chew through even heavy plastic containers, I have seen it with my own eyes. Managing pests is an important but easily-overlooked part of prepping.I continue to prep quietly, adding a few extra cans here and there. Prices are creeping up steadily, so it's worth shopping around.Work is being done in person and we're having periodic episodes of being sent for Covid testing as colleagues go down with the lurge. Most recent PCR was last week, mercifully another negative. My post-surgical recovery was a long journey but has gone very well, for which I give daily thanks. Have lost the weight I gained due to being immobile and am feeling fitter and feister than I have in years. Have big big plans for maximising allotment output in 2022.I hope tonight finds you all well. Love and peas, GQ xxxEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Beat me to it, Greyqueen, thanks for posting.
Thread populations change and evolve over time, people come, people go. C'est la vie. Sometimes you get someone posting something that someone else doesn't like. Civilised adults discuss the matter rationally, not so civilised ones throw teddy out of the pram. Then someone else comes along with a giant wooden spoon. I am not on many social media forums but I understand from other people who are that there are far worse forums to inhabit than the MSE OS ones.
Many of us have busy lives and no longer have loads of time to post, but we can still occasionally read when we get a minute. It's lovely to read about people's plans and ideas, and with such a lot of Stuff going on in the world supportive online communities are needed more than ever.

I was thinking of you and the leeks , slugs etc which has been a habit for years. One thing I often wonder about is what became of Nursie? Last heard of heading back to the UK in the care of a student bribed by poor Sortstuff who couldn't take anymore. That reminds me Iv haven't noticed SS on OS for ba long time. Each time I use my little Henry I think of you Is Henri du Vac still safe in his cupboard with no nursie sharing his space? One thing I feel quite guilty about is never managing to embrace the Kondo concept although it changed many posters lives and you did try to encourage me. I tried holding up an object clothes , book whatever and asking it the various questions then I'd start giggling. However we have some some small charities here including a bookshop run by an animal sanctuary who never PTS a healthy animal and I kept them stocked with booksOther items went to our hospice shop and other small charities working locally. So I got rid of stuff although I wasn't rolling and folding.I'm amazed Wild Thing is 17 where do all the years go.? Mind you the brother and sister youngest and her boyfriend rescued as tiny kittens will be 10 next year. they were christmas kittens abandoned when the novelty wore off quickly.Love and good health to you and yours oh and Peas of course. May your slugs move elsewhere- faint hope they know where the best food in the area lives.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.
There but for fortune go you and I.15 -
Glad to hear from you GQ and glad life is ok although my condolences on loss of your family members (pets to me are - my dogs would skin me if I said differently, not that I ever would.)
I am going slowly though everything area of my life and checking to see if I cover all emergencies as far as I possibly can.
As a total housefire could mean losing everything and no chance to leave even with a bug out bag I have sent myself digital copies of documents / receipts etc so they can be accessed from anywhere plus ensured a trusted family member has a copy of my email address (not a FM who lives with me to ensure they still have access to their equipment). Another way if you can afford it is to rent a deposit box at a bank, only needs to be tiny and put a few usb sticks in it with passwords, documents on them - at least two copies of each in case one breaks, technology is great but does have a habit of breaking down at worst possible time.) So short of WW3 you would be able to have all those precious digitised things safe. If you have a home with a garden, you could bury some in a waterproof, fireproof box, just don't forget where you put it. I know some things you need originals but at least if you have a digital copy, you can then have that to ensure you obtain the correct legal copy on paper.
Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch
