Left 10mins earlier to do the school run, passed local small Tesco and forecourt didn't look to bad, I nipped in as only had qtr of a tank with one other in front filling up, I got to the pump just as the manager was sticking signs on the pumps saying no diesel, I have never in my life put my pin number in so fast and picked up the fuel nozzle he skipped me and moved to the next pump I now fortunately have a full tank but do feel annoyed at myself for getting in that situation.15

Long time no see - hope all are keeping well.Went out especially for petrol this morning as my fuel light has been on since Monday and I was worried about queues escalating over the weekend. I think I got there just at the right time as there was only one pump free out of 8 and as I left it was getting even busier. Just got my usual half a tank as I haven't been doing many miles, it will keep me going for the foreseeable. Car only did 1k miles in the last 12 months.Polly, your mum's saying is very familiar - my Grandma always used to quote the full version - Never trouble trouble till trouble troubles you, for if you trouble trouble, it will always trouble you.Daz I hope you'll soon be fully recovered, and that the Tupe thing doesn't come to pass.“All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”13

I love the slow cookers we have. When my partner and I moved in together we each had one...and he suggested getting rid of one, but I said no. He had a small one, which is perfect for cooking a 750g piece of gammon, or rustling up some soup for a few days. My giant of a thing is great for stews, larger gammons, and chickens. In fact, despite the warmth here in London, I have a beef stew cooking in my big pot at the moment as I have a cold and so want comfort food. The fact that it is nice and cheap to put on is also a very good factor (and how huge and fluffy the dumplings will be when I pop them in later!)Prep wise I'm still unemployed so I'm hobbling around the house trying to assess if there is anything frugal we can do to make it more energy efficient. Plans so far include trying to find a curtain to pop up behind the dining table where I sit as there is a window to the utility room, and the utility room gets rather cold in winter, and there is a curtain pole there already.Grocery budget in 2023 £2279.18/£2700Grocery budget in 2022 £2304.76/£2400Grocery budget in 2021 £2107.86/£2200Grocery budget in 2020 £2193.02/£2160Saving for Christmas 2023 #15 £ 90/ £36512

Regarding petrol, (diesel in my case) I have always filled up at three quarters full for about the last ten years. It's about seven eighths full at the moment, so I'm not going to hunt around for it. The BP at the end of my road is only entertaining electric cars at the moment.I was just musing that I could probably last several months with the 16 gallons I carry round, as I only do about 4000 miles per year. I bet my silly mother is fretting with an empty tank though, despite my entreaties about keeping it topped up.14

@Toonie chazzers are your friend - and if a curtain can't be found, a blanket or quilted cover or even a fleecy throw can be modified by sewing a channel deep enough for your pole to slide through 😉2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Re: fuel - I filled up last weekend, I will get around 360 miles out of that. I do 60 miles a week (2 days to work & back) so if I go nowhere else that is at least 5 weeks commute. Unfortunately buses are difficult & it would take around 2 hours as against 25 minutes drive plus 10 minute walk between carpark & hospital.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

That's the worst thing about a slow cooker, it makes you feel hungry for a long time!Grocery budget in 2023 £2279.18/£2700Grocery budget in 2022 £2304.76/£2400Grocery budget in 2021 £2107.86/£2200Grocery budget in 2020 £2193.02/£2160Saving for Christmas 2023 #15 £ 90/ £36511

Toonie, if you're in Reading, I have some red silk curtains that were in one of my rentals when I bought it. They covered a French window about 6 ft wide. I can't use them, as they don't have a fire label. You're welcome to them if you can collect.

My local petrol stations have closed. Glad I did my fill up this morning. Habit I learnt from my father, never have less than half a tank full. I remember the tanker delivery driver strike in the early 2000s. Cars on the motorway were doing 50 mph to save fuel. Perhaps people will slow down again.
