There was advice on glasses steaming up on the first part of the Poor Health thread can't remember the advice but it helped Fuddle whose glasses were steaming up in the cold weather. It may come back to me mothernerd.Fingers crossed your mum will get her blood test tomorrow and yours gets done next week.I imagine your weather is similar to ours cold damp and miserable. To quote dd I am so over Winter.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

Nice to 'see' you, Polly. I just googled for bumblebee cartoons and got it off the internet. I have it saved to my PC so won't loose it. Am about 5 months into a 12 month convalescene and doing pretty well, thank you. The slugs won't know what's hit them later in the year when I rasp up the hoe, spade, shears etc with the carborundum stone and set out with murder in mind. Loo roll is still plentiful, I'll be OK into 2022. Kid Bruv is well, Wild Thing is presently lying on the sill over their radiator and soaking up the heat like a starlet on a Dubai beach.

That's not always true taff - sometimes lack of money holds you back, or lack of chances - or life circs just arrange themselves wrongly. Most people are not lazy spongers or compulsiver spenders. We must all be Preppers or we wouldnt be in this forum - but we don't all have equal opportunities to prep. Not in any way a dig at you, just general witterings24

I'm so glad the your health is picking up. It's hard when you know you will need surgery at some time in the future so it must be relief it's done now. The slugs are probably knitting chain mail in anticipation of the new fitter GQ on a mission .It will be all round to yours should the loo roll supply become critical. If there is such a thing as reincarnation I'm coming back as a well loved cat. They always have the best seat in the house and control the servants with a wave of the paw.It isn't a pleasant but it's been horrible to read of all the pets being passed on to struggling sanctuaries at the moment. people are struggling to pay bills etc but there are always those who will have got a pet in the last year to break the lockdown boredom then got bored themselves. As for the back street breeders who are inbreeding non stop with many kittens born blind etc there should be a special place in hell for them.. My middle dd bought a chocolate lab 12 years ago saw the mum and litter etc. the pup was very expensive but has been at the vets many times over the years. When the vet asked for the details of who sold it she discovered the family home where she'd chosen her puppy was a well known front for a noted back st breeder. By then she and pup had bonded . He's an old boy now with cataracts and the arthritis often seen in Labs but it's wrong people can folow such a cruel way of making money.Wild Thing is a very lucky, loved cat with attitude.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

Not in any way a dig at you, just general witteringsI'm in the minority thinking then. I appreciate that life is not a bed of roses for everyone, that there are wars in other countries, etc etc but I also believe you make your own luck to a certain extent. I'm not going all American self help guru here but if you want something, something that is not outside the realms of possibility, then it is possible to get it. Most of us don't really plan what our lives are, we make choices that dictate the road it takes. Those choices come from the environment we grew up in. So some people have a background to overcome, some have one that gave them advantages. But at some point in your adult life, you alone are responsible for your luck or lack of, your fortune or your lack of.I greatly admire !!!!!! and Angela Strawbridge for example, because they both have a work ethic that just doesn't stop. Yes, they have definitely capitalised on their life now, and have trinkets and so forth on their websites for people who want to feel involved in some way but good on them too. He made himself how he is, so did she. No one came up to either of them and handed them a life on plate. They had interests they developed, that they pushed, that they combined and came up with TV [and life] gold. Would you tell them they were fortunate, or would you congratulate them on their work? If I didn't want a fat lip I wouldn't do the former.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi10

If I didn't want a fat lip I wouldn't do the former.I've been thinking back to the original preppers thread started by Vanoonoo. As a new poster I would have felt overwhelmed by the sheer amount of tasks in those posts. We all have different lives. Mine has involved caring for a very ill dd amongst other things as do others.I was lucky to have a proper OS upbringing which prepared me for years ahead when money was tight. Yes I grew fruit and veg etc but was also working until it became impossible and raising two different generations of offspring. I'm better off than those struggling to feed thier children and afford some heat in winter now. It just seems to me that all those posts today set a very high bar for a newbie who may not have had the cooking from scratch and budgeting upbringing I was fotunate to have. It may not have been intended but it does read that everyone has the time and life to do it all. My opinion only but I didn't feel VJ was being critical . As I read it she was stating reality many people are wondering how they can manage financially and time wise in the present situation.Yet again Marcus Rashford has a fight on his hands to make sure children are fed. Those measly food parcels are shameful. As A child my son wuld have eaten it all while waiting for his meal..pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

I totally agree that we are all ultimately responsible for our own lives, making our own decisions and how things turn out. I do think it is important though that when expressing gratitude and pleasure about how good our own lives are, we should never lose sight of the fact that others are not so fortunate. Having awareness, compassion and appreciation for the difficulties others may be having is what makes us better human beings. And let's not forget that any one of us may, due to a twist of fate, suddenly find ourselves in very different and not so pleasant circumstances. If we have been thoughtful and caring about others, I like to think we would all receive kindness when we need it.
In these dreadful times (sorry, playing Boris's BS Bingo here) I am encouraged to find many people being kind and supportive when others are struggling. Look at what happened recently when a poster announced she had tested positive for Covid. Lots of posters, some who may have never interacted with her before, immediately came on to give her their very best wishes and offer support or advice. That's what I like about this thread, and OS posters, they show kindness and caring. That's humanity for you.
Incidentally, I too enjoy watching the odd programme in the Escape to the Chateau series. I am full of admiration for their hard graft, and what they have done to that crumbling old ruin. One life - your life - live it!29
