I've had ME since I was at uni, I am now a woman of a certain age. Three weeks after the British Medical Association announced all over the media that they accepted CFS/ME as a bona fide illness, I was in my GP's consulting room being told unequivocally that there was no such thing as ME and that it was all in my mind. The amount of times I've refused prescriptions for anti-depressants and told the medic involved, somewhat testily, that I am not now nor have I ever been depressed, I am sick and tired of feeling sick and tired all the time! In one ear and out the blinkin' other, without connecting with a brain cell in between, in most cases. I soldier on, am shortly to have major surgery and the surgeon has told me that the ME will mean a longer recovery period than otherwise. Not may, or could, but that it absolutely will take longer. He's clearly got enough experience of operating on ME sufferers to know our bodies don't heal as well as they ought.

jennyjelly was the poster who put the carton wine recipe on ‘if things get tougher’ thread. I don’t know if she still posts on MSE.14

Dried fig wine is a begger for going 'pop', and it turned out very strong as well, I don't brew now, I'm not bothered anymore with having wine, I'd rather have a cup of tea.£71.93/ £180.009

To be fair, I made my ginger beer in plastic bottles for years, until I'd amassed enough Gr0lsch bottles, and only had two explode & leave the kitchen somewhat sticky!Angie - GC Aug25: £106.61/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)14

I make elderflower champagne in plastic pop bottles and yes I’ve had explosions. My boiler cupboard was a very sticky mess.12

We religiously let the pressure off 'em just before teatime every day, so we've never yet had one go pop ... says he, looking for wood to touch. We're all doomed16

We used to use the plastic 2l coke and lemonade bottles for home made beer. Far less trouble than glass, though they don't last so long. But sadly, there are always plenty more of them. At least reusing them gives them an extended life.

Apparently we now have a DIY NHS, My 86 year old mother is due for her annual BP check. She has to buy her own blood pressure monitor, take it herself, get her height and weight done, write it all down and take the paper to the GPs. She then has to announce her arrival on the intercom and stand there till they let her in. Did I mention she's 86 lol. Really, I realise things are a bit different but for goodness sake. I'm not even sure why she needs to go as they have also said they will have a telephone consult to discuss. Good luck with that, she's as deaf as a post, even with the hearing aids in.16
