Well done Mrs LW - that is brilliant news, you must be thrilled!9

SiClist - my family demanded feeding but Himself peered over my shoulder at the old singer website & declared the lads could crack on with the washing up, he was just going to take a look.Yeah. Well. We ended up with the lads & I eating chicken noodle wombat (our go to heat & eat mess which uses very few pans & Fills Teenagers), the washing up gracelessly done & himself apparently having 'a bit of toast' sometime in the wee small hours. As he's been reading, solidly, according to his web browser history.I may send him back to have a dekko at the American Canning thing. He plans to grow veggies - I plan to learn good old American Canning... So glad you reckon there isn't a UK equivalent or wasn't then. Spares me a lot of pointless negotiation.I share your concern about bean prices, cornishchick - I may have to do a Costco run to do a comparison. (Why my lot are So Brand Loyal does actually boil down to since they eat every darn bean, it's worth the money.) Just argh at the current grocery shopping bills. That said, it is only once a week, but ulp.Mrs LW there are allotments going to those ready to do the work? Dayng... I think of other MSE forumites & their struggles to get one, let alone clear it - but at least in your hands it will be lovingly put to good use & well maintained which is more than I can say of my back garden. With raspberries already - be still my beating heart - how are you for an apple tree or two? As I planted a hedge of jam futures & hurrah for goosegogs & jostaberries which have the setting whammy of araldite but apples are more traditional & anyway, what else gives you that scrunch when you bite in?! May all joy & good crops come your way!I started this post with menfolk demanding feeding & I'll have to finish it with More of the same. The growing male of the species seems to have a blast furnace for a metabolism. Then for some reason they think I'm the stoker-in-chief.15

Crikey Mrs LW, you’ve hit the jackpot!
Has anyone made there own tomato pasta sauce and bottled it? Can it be done with a hot water bath?10 -
Amazing the news says that inflation is down, isn't it? Maybe for petrol, but how much petrol do you use to buy the weekly shop? (None in my case, as the shops are across the road.)I don't think the prices for food in shops can be included. Just paid £4 yesterday for two small breaded cod fillets at Waitrose.13

And if it's redcurrant, they make lovely cordial with a few raspberries to add a bottom note. Otherwise tastes a bit thin.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing9 -
I did a bit of batch cooking today, in order to reduce the seemingly relentless rounds of preparing meals. Another batch of veggie soup made. This time double the quantity. Using up the last of the soup/casserole veg bags that I bought months ago, and squirreled away in the freezer. I followed a bbc recipe that has a touch of curry powder in it, and DD enjoyed it so much, she requested it another two times since, and so the first batch is gone lol. The I made a big batch of sausage casserole, with mash. Enough for tonight's tea, and 2 portions saved and into the freezer for another night. Tomorrow i will probably do a batch of cottage pie, and then i won't need to cook for a good few days 😁
I haven't stocked up on beans in ages. We don't often have them with meals now, especially as DD declared recently that she doesn't like them and has refused to eat them since. Tinned spaghetti, however, will be wolved down in record time! 🙄🙄February wins: Theatre tickets11 -
cornishchick said:I was shocked to find they are selling at around £1 to £1,20 a tin now, even when bulk buying.. is this just a sign of the CV19 or do you think the price will come back down?
