I have a light in my car similar to your blue one, Bob. It gives plenty of bright light when needed. One life - your life - live it!0

Couldn't find an image online, so had to take a photo myself.
Apologies for the poor quality, but I took it on my crappy old smartphone, under artificial light.
120cm x 60cm, and costing £2-49 at Home Bargains.0 -
Haha - no Bob it's not a euphemism lol! I have a small one indoors with two screwdriver rolls, hammer, pliers, small spanners, wrench, Allen keys and WD40,Silicone Spray, various little boxes of nails, screws etc.
There's another one on my boat that's fairly similar but with the addition of spare shackles etc. I grew up in a male dominated household so I also know my way around an engine!
Luckily DH likes to have the correct tools & his collection is vast!
BTW - I've got the same battery inspection lamp in blue too - lives on the boat and is great when I've got my head in the bilges lol.Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
I've found a use for the older "powerbanks" that are supposed to help a mobile phone & in fact lack the oomph to give a modern phone more than about a minute and a half.
A colleague came in with a little string of Christmas lights, scrounged a couple of batteries off me (my desk still has a pound shop pack from last year) and there was a plaintive wail as the penny dropped - the things use a USB port for power. So out came a power bank & there was twinkling & rejoicing... I even got the batteries back.0 -

And plenty of spare sheets too!(Ropes to you landlubbers)Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

My use for sheets tends to be for sleeping with, but a judicious length of rope remains my favourite easy-to-misunderstand oddment. Along with the bucket & polos...
Spotted yesterday & much enjoyed, one colleague's take on the frenetic Decorating - he placed a beautiful striped mint on his monitor & smiled drily. Yes indeed, Humbug!0 -

Also, since my stairway light switch is 4 steps up, there's the risk of me tripping up the stairs in the dark, while searching for the switch, so, I've installed one of these, horizontally, on the top of the door frame, on the inside of the door.
This second lamp has the added advantage that, in the event of me arriving home to a power cut (or even a blown stairway bulb), I'll have enough light to find the battery powered inspection lamp, which resides on the wall behind the front door.
I'm wondering about that top gadget - as to whether it would solve the way the Council here thinks we should take responsibility for their street-lighting (ie letting them get away with not maintaining it properly) - by using the standard light over front door many houses have here (including mine).
I don't want to switch on my exterior light when I'm going out of an evening in order to make up for their lack of maintenance - as that would be a visible sign that I was out.
Does your gadget just come on when someone actually literally walks straight up to the front door and is standing there only about a 1' away from it? If so - that would be one way for me to fulfil their responsibilities and be able to see my own front door to put my key in it - without my exterior light on announcing I wasn't in. At the moment I'm having to stumble up to my front door in the dark and struggle to see to put my key in with the aid of a rather feeble torchlight thingie I've put on my keyring since moving here.0 -

Yes it does, although more like 4 or 5 feet, rather than 1 foot.
As for your "rather feeble torchlight thingie", you could keep one of these in your pocket.
