I do approve of the Swiss government’s ability to shrug & reverse, given suitably local civilised uproar.

Don't mess with the Swiss especially after they've had their coffee...

Case in point: This 13th Century bridge over the Rhine between Switzerland & Germany was wired with explosives for the duration of the Cold War, was only cleared five years ago and the Germans didn't even know about it until after the explosives were gone

Edit: Turns out all the bridges between Germany & Switzerland were wired, this was just the last one to be cleared

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?

A sterling example of quietly ‘managing’ difficult neighbours. Railways similarly furbished for the prevention of misunderstandings ?

You have to hand it to the Swiss - they can be admirably Thorough.
Not that I want Less Attention to Detail protecting my savings, but some of the gold on deposit could perhaps be subject to belated money laundering scrutiny.

I wonder if there are any explosives built into the Channel Tunnel? ;)

Is that to stop people getting in or stop them getting out ? :)

  • Someone will have the maintenance contract to swap the explosive chemistry around every few years. I wonder how it’s tested...
(Says she who works in an office building that has been having lift problems, water problems, fire safety problems - and that’s just this week.)

Operation Blue Meanie. We just park up a 'broken down' locomotive at our end of the tunnel, the Russians opt not to lose their 1st Guards tank brigade and just book a ferry instead

Unbeknown to them, the ferry company doesn't exist - cunning

I'll probably get a visit from MI6 now...

Without wanting to cop flak from antiVaxxers, I was sad to hear of the loss of life and the current lockdown of Samoa as a result of a measles epidemic.

It's just a childhood illness - that kills people.

For those who really cannot get the shot - best of luck, but for everyone else, please get the shots & protect both yourselves & the fragile few.
  • I'll second that D for V! DD2 had the measles when she was 3, she had allergies that meant her health was never robust and she always had something that precluded her from having the vaccination and the measles is the most unforgiving illness , we had her at 3 lying prone in her little bed and just asking for water with ice in in a bottle and wanting her feet rubbed because they hurt for the best part of a week. The fever raged and she was delirious a lot of the time and so, so poorly. We were very lucky in that she made a complete and full recovery unimpaired but it could so very easily have been otherwise. Measles IS preventable, please, please take the step that protects your little ones, watching them suffer is heartbreak!
