I was a little amused (but didn't show it) when the DDs came back from one of their charity-shopping expeditions proudly clutching their trendy re-usable bamboo coffee cups. They don't drink coffee...

The familiar shaped reusables have lids which a lot of coffee shops insist on. (Says she who lost one [just fell out of the car door] & bought a silicon replacement online to maintain my 'free' coffee habit!)

A colleague brings his Starbucks logo'ed thing in, then carefully decants the black coffee into two china cups & shares one.

Plus, once you have & carry a mug, it becomes easier to use, which (when the alternatives are single use) has to be a good thing? Also, as the National Coffee Day showed, a lot of coffee places do also do tea & even hot chocolate & carry right on discounting for your own mug. While I try not to give money to the coffee places, I am scrupulous about using my cup to hack into their profits a bit...

Cheer on the dear children, treat them to reusable straws & linen napkins to support the ecofriendly ways they have stumbled into?!

    Welcome back, Mar!

[I wish you could have heard my family assumptions when they saw my muddy hands. Started with a headcount, then speculated on who I'd buried. I started "logan" and they doubletook as they've a scout pal call Logan. Once that died down, I was able to finish the word "-Berry, Tayberry & the Jostaberry cutting's gone in At Last!"]

Anyone ever had the cmos battery go flat in your PC? The one in the Windows 95 pc I do my books on failed recently. Unbelievably the battery is built into a chip, so cannot be replaced.

The old hard drive will not talk to a modern pc, so in order to get back my programs & data, I have had to buy a reconditioned 2004 pc and swap out the hard drive.

I'm not sure how I could have prepared for this problem short of having a spare pc on the shelf. Any thoughts?

    Ahhhh! :)

I'm getting so frustrated with this. The old disk did not work in the new computer, so I put one of my backup tapes in my Windows 98SE machine, and restored the Windows 95 system onto the disk that came in the new machine.

    Still, wouldn't boot!

I get the impression they updated the file arrangement on hard disks between 95 and 98.

I'm now out of ideas, and I think I will have to say goodbye to my old landlord software that only runs on 95.

Anyone we know in Tokyo for the rugby or F1? as I think this weekend could be a bit educational. At least there's a national handbook, with an English translation here (I know, I have mentioned it before but I am deeply impressed.)
