Jo Jo, chard send up flowering spikes in summer, little green flowers which look like nothing. Plants often end up 5-6 ft tall once the flowerheads are on them and so gnarly that you need a mattock to dig them up.
Have been YS hunting just now in marcus and spencius, managing to luck onto the 90% off point. You have to be quick, but it's a rainy night and I think some of the competition had stayed indoors.
Heh! YS-ing is no sport for the faint of heart.:rotfl:
Had several of those in the garden this summer and left them to get on with it.
I can but hope!I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
If they're anything like mine they'll come up every few centimetres, you'll have chardlings every which way!
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Pigeon Wrangling again this afternoon. My audience this time (not realised until after I'd put a kid straight about their evolutionary niche/place in the food web/how amazing they are/how ridiculous he was being whilst in the midst of scaling tables to throw a blanket over the poor thing for rerelease/muttering nice words to said flying rat) was the big boss.
If they didn't leave food littered about and doors open, they wouldn't have the problem. And I wouldn't be entertaining all and sundry whilst gaining a reputation as the Animal Person.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -

Lovely to 'see' you again, daz.
I'm adding a few bits and bobs to the storecupboard and ramping up production on the allotments (have one full-size and one half-size plot, the latter only since March, they are side-by-side).
I think it's good to maintain a degree of flexibility, one never knows how things will pan out re employment etc but one can bet on having to eat, regardless.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Let's face it, if things go t-up, I'm gonna be great at sourcing protein.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
I was shown how to field dress a pigeon barehanded in about 90 seconds by mad bushcrafters in the wilds of the Lake District. Then I did it myself. And made a pigeon pie.
The technique works on all birds except waterfowl and can be shared on request.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I'm *still* working on the laurel hedge, though I gave myself a break today, went to a local village with my sister, found a couple of local food shops I didn't know about. Strengthening bonds with neighbours too, and like Daz, I'm stocking up a bit more (actually, I'm tidying more, I can't fit more food in the house if I don't rationalise and tidy like crazy).2023: the year I get to buy a car0
