Life insurance and cancer

Thanks for your responses. My issue was that Legal and General had read the report from GP and didn't fully understand what it all meant as it was a very rare illness. I took this to their customer service team and asked them to get an independent opinion from the relevant consultant. They did this and i now have a very competitively priced insurance with them. I got a letter of apology and a cash compensation. They initially refused me cover because they saw the word 'Cancer'. Companies should not blanket treat all cancer survivors the same. Companies must judge each case on its own, not 'cancer. Computer says no'.
I'm glad I pushed them on this and didn't take the advice of 'its a case of shopping in the wrong shop' as someone advised.
If you have had cancer and have been refused cover, make sure the company look at your case individually. Make sure they get medical advice from a relevant medical expert. And good luck!1
