One Time Passcode for Credit Cards

I live in Cornwall where there is no mobile phone signal. Only use a John Lewis Credit Card. Being asked when checking out a transaction for a One Time Pass-code which is sent by John Lewis to you by text!!! No phone signal! Rang them 4 times this morning to try and get a code. Does anyone know of another way of getting a secure code to be able to complete transactions. Tried email they don't seem to be able to send you one! Thank you

  • We have exactly the same problem.
They did tell me that they would email me, but they didn't, and I had to ring them. The assistant could authorise the one transaction, but had no idea how to help otherwise.
I have written a formal letter and am awaiting a response.
I am reluctant to give up a card that has good rewards, and usually, an excellent service.
I understand, that as this is an influential site, the big companies monitor posts - maybe they'll come back to us! But I guess it should be on the Credit Card board?
  • Hello, just had a letter from John Lewis Partnership Card saying that they are unable to help, as this is an effective way of preventing fraud (of course it is, it's preventing transactions!).
I do have another credit card, as back-up, so will have to use that for on-line purchases that need authenticating. As this is part of an 'industry wide' switch I'll have to hope I get a better mobile signal before the other credit card switches!

Check if the passcode can be sent as a voice text to a landline or as an email. (Might be an option in your account settings or under disability access options). My friend lives in a remote area with little signal and gets hers that way - not sure who with though.
  • Thank you, they did originally say they would use email, later said they would could not amend the account to do that. I did not think of, and they did not suggest a landline call. I'm going to ask the mods to move this to the Credit Card board.

Would this help you out long term? I think it also works for sending/receiving sms messages

Also remember that you can receive texts on land-line now if you have a suitable house phone. That could perhaps be another option as the card company could text your house number. Obviously no good if you're out and about and need to authorise a transaction though.

It's for online transactions only right? OK I suppose you might sometimes want to book something online when you are out...

Perhaps attaching the card to Curve would work
