£12.30 paid out from quidco and £5 from shoppix....both amounts going towards the general moving expenses.
I managed to get a joint savings account open then the systems had a meltdown when trying to do the current account so only half a job done...I'll be back on to that tomorrow....bah!
Baby steps!0 -
Another £5 from quidco became available today so that has been withdrawn and will go towards the cost of the curtains.
We had our new home demo today....We are so close yet still no confirned completion date....so frustrating! It was lovely to be in the house, though and we are very pleased with all the fittings, carpets etc. It will have been worth all the stress.
Trying to sort out the new bills is a pain, however, as the new postcode isn't on everyone's systems, with it being a new build. We will get there!0 -
We are set to complete on Monday. Mortgage has been drawn down, DH has sent his share of the remaining balance to the solicitors and I will do mine when at work tomorrow (too big to do by mobile banking so will do in the branch).
That makes us pretty skint again! Hence the need to focus on rebuilding savings and getting the mortgage down. I have budgets, I have a plan ....now all I need is to put it all into place!
During all this I have gotten quite run down, though, picking up infections and not sleeping well. I have a marathon to run in April, plus a very demanding, although enjoyable job, so I need to get some balance in my life in order that I don't go kaput! Sometimes that part is easier said than done! Thank goodness I have an amazing support in my husband. I have been in very different situations in the past, so thank my lucky stars I am where I am now.
Now....almost 3am....again. must try and sleep!!!0 -
Money has been paid over....We are officially skint again! We do, however, now have a joint account for bills and another for food shopping....in which to house our meagre remaining cash balances!
Broadband has been ordered...another payment that can be added to the budget. It is all coming together and we are another step closer. Happy days.0 -
Happy weekend everyone. This is our last one in the rental, which pleases me greatly! Today will mostly be packing up the kitchen, getting the washing and ironing done then heading to the football with DD.
Tonight is a works night out....glad rags and a cocktail or two.....I am looking forward to that!
I can't believe we get our keys on Monday....I am so excited for it!!0 -

Thank you! We are surrounded by boxes...just need to get the van, load up and get out of here! Tomorrow is for cleaning and generally getting straight.
The new mortgage appears on our mobile banking app.....so is very real now. £219,990....ready to be tackled over the next few years. I've dealt with worse, so look forward to beating this bad boy into submission 0 -
That £219,990 will soon be history I’m sure!First home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).

If I have my way, it certainly will!
The mortgage is only for 10 years so the minimum monthly payment is quite high at £2024. That alone will get the balance reducing reasonably quickly. I want to overpay smallish amounts from surplus income but to also build up an offset investment pot again using shareware from work and my annual bonuses with a view to earning more than the mortgage costs and hopefully clearing a big chunk when the fixed rate ends in 5 years.
And there the plan starts!!0 -
So.....I have largely neglected money for nothing opportunities over recent month with a plethora of excuses being made....work is too busy, poor online connection in the rental, time taken up marathon training...but really just a case of CBA.
So, prompted by kittenkirst's diary, I am going to make more of the opportunities that are about.
To that end I have just encashed £5 from sw@gbucks.....it is a start and will go towards my offset pot.0
