  • 21p day rate, but were talking about 17 years worth, i'll let you figure that one out.

Its like buying a new car, it does 50miles to a full tank and they never look at it, ask questions around it, or try to get to the bottom of it. There is a duty of care when you raise concerns.
  • No she hasnt changed since moving in to the house in 2001.

I'm aware of what economy 7 is, i knew by the 2 sets of readings that had to be given. She was never aware or had been made aware asking about higher bills comapred to her neighbour with same size house etc.

The whole topic here was around i'm a bit shocked that she was never made aware when she rang or explained about the bills when calling npower over the years.

Ask yourself this folks, would you all be happy if you had paid thousands extra over the years when there was no need to, and would you feel happy to find this out after calling many times over the years?

which really isn't massively expensive for a big 6 on a variable economy 7 standard tariff at the moment.

I fail to see how npower is in any way to blame.

presumably you have been receiving bills stating that other tariffs / companies could be cheaper, along with stating the price of the tariff you are on with the two rates showing, no?

Why didn’t she change the meters herself or was she not understanding the system she had?

Why? I can't think of many things where you are told about what you are buying in detail. It is up to you to find out. it's like trying to get compensation from next because you were not told their coat needed unzipping before putting it on so you just tied the arms around you for years (yes it is that level of ridiculousness).

And not to be harsh or anything, the finger goes squarely at whom ever did not make her inqisitive enough to actually research things she is paying for or even worse just assume that companies should educate you on their product.

It's just life. You have to work things out for yourself. As such yes she should be dealing with it now. Not you, you are not helping in the grand scheme of things.
  • That’s a good way of putting it Carrot , so many people are quick to blame energy companies for issues that really a customer has responsibility for.

  • You don't get, shes been on this tariff when she just needed to be on a standard tariff.

She's rang npower many times over the years asking why is it high. Not once has anyone explained or try to find a better deal that could help. Simple questions should of been asked. Which npower agreed when i rang them 3 days ago. Even the ombusdman agreed there is or should of been a reason giving why and got to the route cause of it and explained the tariff she was on.

21p is high when you should be on a standard tariff for 17years.

If she had never rang many times over the years asking why its so high i'd agree with the points you are making, but she did ring, and no one explained the tariff or the dual costings or the fact she was on the wrong tariff the whole time.

I m not insulting you Richjay, but its clear that you "don t get it ". I have already furnished you with a supplier who can offer Eco 7 rates every bit as low as single rate tariffs, regardless of your night rate usage. The lowest tariffs are nearly always on fixed yearly deals. She need nt have been on a single rate meter rather than a dual rate meter. As I have said many towns in the UK have Eco 7 meters installed as standard even if they all have gas mains supply. Towns near large power stations needed to encourage more off peak consumption to keep the power stations active..electricity cannot be stored apart from batteries
You must input your annual day/night usage into UKpower.co.uk to compare. Go for fixed not variable tariffs and make sure the comp site box is ticked to show "all suppliers " not just the ones they get commissions for .
If Npower want to give your Partner 6 months refund , grab it and move on. You can find Eco7 suppliers who can equal the best rates you can find on single rate tariff..
I take it she has been on standard/variable tariff for years, well that in itself would have made her pay up to 20 % more over the best fixed yearly rates. Would you want a refund for not having that fact explained by your supplier ?
As a meter reader for 20 years I ve met so many occupiers who don`t understand what an Eco7 meter is,or the baffling billing language , so your Partner certainly is nt on her own in carrying on paying top prices unknowingly
  • I had this problem with npower, I worked out what it had cost me and npower paid me back, result.
