I think that was the liquid paraffin as sold in chemists, rather than the sort for running an old fashioned heater....unless of course the objective was a quick barbecue!
Mmmm..... barbeque chicken, summer seems a very long way away. :(

I think any form of oil is supposed to work, but in terms of the paraffins my grandmother used the latter sort... it was poured out of the same 'Aladdin' can that was used to fill the heaters, and came out of the local petrol station's pump rather than from a chemist. :) (she was a poultry farmer, like her father)

Like I say though... I'm not suggesting this was a good idea. ;)

    Ouch!

I use Petroleum jelly, which is kind to legs and hands. :AGets right under the scales and suffocates the little blighters. :D
  • Many thanks everyone...sounds as though its still out there in circulation...will try B&Q or hardwear stores etc..thanks....

    (found some replies funny.....thanks again)
  • I recently bought 2 x 1lt tins from my local Tesco store. When I arrived home I discovered one tin had the usual brown liquid while the other tin had a weak disinfectant smelling green liquid.
The tins looked exactly the same, I felt cheated because this green stuff doesn’t seem to be any stronger than dettol disinfectant and its useless for cleaning an area where 3 dogs live, the killer is this weak stuff cost the same as the good strong brown stuff!
Jayes, at least package them differently, so we can see what we’re buying.
